Just how long is the install time?

So i know the page says the install may take an undesirable amount of time, but how long is that? The install has been stuck at "Publishing product information" for several hours now and has been running at 30% cpu the entire time. This normal? I'm on a MacBook Pro, 2.2 GHz i7, 8GB ram, running 10.7.2. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, when you say "The install has been stuck at..." do you mean CrossOver's install? Rift's install? A dependency of Rift? Did you see the Rift installer come up, agree to the EULA?

I apologize, but I really need more information to help you.

The Rift installer. The CrossOver installer has passed all the previous steps and is at "Installing RIFT". I'm pretty sure i'm past the EULA, but it's been a while now. I know i picked the install location.

I would not have believed it but I always re-test when something like this is reported. It would appear that the downloadable installer for Rift is broken (it was working on Monday I believe... at worst, it was working on Friday). I can only assume that something has changed with the installer.

I have filed a critical bug in our system for this issue and it will likely get very quick attention from our developers. I'll post here when I have more information.

Alright, after some extensive testing we have a conclusion...

As with any game the installers come from various mirrors, etc.

I have several versions of the Rift installer set aside on my system. They all have the same exact name except for one. This one has a number tacked onto the end (Rift_LIVE_Patcher_setup 10-47-27.exe vs Rift_LIVE_Patcher_setup.exe).

I would assume you would find the same or something similar within your cached installers, but ultimately the information that you need to get up and running is this:

  1. This has been reproduced but only in a corner case in-house, we retested this on five different machines each with at least three new installs.

    • After the initial period where we reproduced this, we were unable to reproduce it again
  2. "Fixing" it is very easy and quick, instructions follow:

  • Open a Finder window
(click on the blue two-toned face in your dock)

  • Select your home folder
(It has a house next to your username on the left side of the Finder window. It is located in the "Places" section)

  • Follow this path: <username>/Library/Application Support/CrossOver Games/
(double click on each folder to find the next one)

  • locate the "installers" folder and delete it
(drag that folder to the trash or hold down the command key and click on it for removal options)

  • Launch the bottle Manager
(click on the CrossOver Games Icon in your dock. On the menu bar at the top go to "Configure" and choose "Manage Bottles"

  • Delete the "failed" Rift bottle
(Highlight the Rift bottle and use the "-" button to remove the bottle completely)

  • Restart the installation process for Rift

If you need further instructions or need help with any of the steps please let us know. Should this happen a second time in a row after you remove your 'installers' folder, let us know.

Just a side note: I just ran it with whatever patcher I got downloading from their web site, and it ran fine for me.

Well, the first 6 tries installing various windows stuff died with cryptic errors, but then the 10.7.3 update finished downloading and I rebooted and all was well.

I have existing installs on Windows, so I copied the "assets" directory from one of those and things were smooth.

that worked. thanks everyone.
