Legacyrender= True (Rifts Specific)

Hey Codeweavers. a known issue for Rifts is that on many IMacs and maybe others there's an issue what you get a crash after login, but before character screen. it's fixed when you open your rift.cfg file and put True in replace of Fase on the Legacyrender line. Is there anything in the works that is going to be able to fix the issue so that I can pop my bad boy on higher graphics? is there already a fix out there that I(We're) not aware of? Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Always search for apps in the C4 database before posting in these
general forums -- it avoids this ; you've posted in the wrong forum.

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=8390

You should read the information in the forum there (and the Tips&Tricks).

Cheers!

I'll post it there, but i wasn't asking for a fix. I see that there has not been an update to the Tip/Trick and was wondering if a fix was in the works...I'll post there though. Read through it all and and didn't see anything more up to date than edit the file. trick. Thanks.

Hi,

Yep, no problem... it's just saner to keep all app related chatter in
the one place, rather than spread out over the whole of this site...or,
as it says at the bottom of the submission page for this forum;

"Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating
to installation/configuration of CrossOver."

...it's just a house-keeping thing =)

Cheers!

We are working on it but we don't have it nailed down yet. When we do, we will let Rift users know.

If you'd like, you can write in (ninjas@codeweavers.com) and ask to be added to the bug in our system. When we fix the bug, we'll let everyone attached to that bug know.

You could try the regedit part of the directions from here: Instructions to install RIFT

It has worked for me on both Ubuntu and Fedora,
But be warned, I have not tried it on a mac, so unless you want to reinstall rift, make sure you have the RIFT bottle backed up, as messing with the registry can bork your bottle.

you may also have to dig around in the system profiler for some of the Device ID and the MFG ID.

I don't even know where to start. Can I access console and do these things from my mac?

unfortunately mac doesn't have a lspci utility;
However, you should be able to go to the apple menu >about this mac> more info.
Scroll down until you see graphics/displays. you should see the vendor & Device ID's there. once you have that info, the instructions should be pretty much the same.

Crossover does steps 1-4 & 6, so the only one you have to worry about is 5.

this WORKS!

to get to the regedit via Crossover:

Home/Library/ApplicationSupport/CrossoverGames/Bottles/Rifts(or whatever you named it)/driveC/windows/regedit.exe

open that bad boy and follow the Wine thread. I did this, saved out. opened up rifts (already had it installed) and I now have lights and a tear in the back ground. It works. eazy peazy. I love you guys. thanks so much for the imput and I hope others can do this and enjoy.

I would love to try this and improve my system performance, only problem is i'm not sure what i'm supposed to use with the device and vendor id since it doesn't look like the example given, all zeros and such.

Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4670
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x9488
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-B8030C-253
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.367
Displays:
iMac:
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Built-In: Yes
Display Connector:
Status: No Display Connected

This is what I can find. Any suggestions?

in this case in order to follow the directions at that link I believe you'd use

VideoPciDeviceID = 0x9488
VideoPciVendorID = 0x1002
VideoMemorySize = 256

Thanks for the help, only problem is that in order to do this i apparently need to disable the "open glcl" (sp?) Lion character tearing thing, which apparently keeps me from using the higher end graphics.
I appreciate the help though and thanks very much

I know I'm a bit late to this post but new to CrossOver. I tried the recommended additions to the Registry for Rift - and OMG! It works. I am able to run Rift on regular graphics with 25-29 FPS. I am so thrilled I tried this. I was running it on Low Rendering and I was fine with it (hey, running Rift off my Mac is worth it enough) - but when I saw this post I just had to try it. And wouldn't you know it...it works!

Thank you Matthew!

Wow, the settings from the Bohemian Pixel blog really improved my gameplay experience! Awesome :)

I tried using the bohemianpixel instructions, and it worked, sort of: I was able to load the character selection screen. The only problem is that my characters heads were either distorted, or completely missing. This happened before when I set it to use legacy rendering.

Is there a way I can disable OpenGL?
