RIFT - Mac OS X

Simply because the cat is already out of the bag...

1) RIFT has connection issues under OS X. The game will not work under CXG 10.0.1 or earlier.
2) Yes, the Powers That Be know about this.
3) Yes, it WILL be resolved in the next update/patch of CXG/Mac

There are some minor video-related bumps at the moment, but no show-stoppers.

So... suck it up, kids, and wait. It is coming.

I assume this was addressed in the 10.1 beta?

The graphics bumps you speak of, could they be causing a dip in the fps? Atm the performance over Crossover Games is too bad for me to be able to play it, forcing me to reboot into bootcamp. With about 10 more fps I could play it on Mac.

I have a 2010 i5 Macbook Pro btw.

Yes, everything has been resolved with 10.1b1. The minor graphics issues are just that: minor. occasionally visible seams, some coarse text rendering, etc. ...but nothing that prevents any use of any aspect of the game.

I consistently get 24 FPS on my 2010 Mac mini. (GeForce 320M, 8GB RAM) Try setting the "Quality Preset" in advanced video to Min, or enabling the "Low Quality Renderer". (and yes, if I end up in the middle of a 50+ person rift raid with pets, it can turn into a bit of a slideshow, but nothing that cannot be tolerated short-term)

If you hover the mouse over the System Menu button, it should show both latency and FPS. What's your FPS?

I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Davis, but what did you mean by saying "It is coming"? Will the full Mac-compartible version of RIFT be released?
Thank you!

No. the version of CXG that works with RIFT is coming... or rather has already arrived a few days ago.

Hello,

I successfully installed RIFT, I could log on, I could update the game... everything okay... But I have one big problem: The graphic is set to Low Rendering, I can not change the setting in the game-menu and the graphic is so bad and slow, that I can't play the game on my Mac. I have a MacBook Version Mac OS X 10.5.8, Prozessor: 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. How can I fix my problem, I really want to play this game, or do I have to buy a new Mac? Please send me some help back. Thanks! 😉

After you get to the character selection screen (where you also create characters), change the video settings in the "SETTINGS" >>"VIDEO">>"Advanced". WARNING!!...If you have a ATI Radeon card in your Mac, you will be better off keeping the setting at the Low Rendering due to a problem with accessing you character properties sheet ingame. Causing it to lock up.

I've been playing pretty successfully on normal graphics settings by simply NOT using the character panel.

I just don't open it unless I have to.

And when I absolutely have to, I log out, set the game to the low graphics rendering as suggested here in the forums, log back in, do my thing... then put the settings back to the way I like them, relog.

Maybe most people won't go through that trouble, but I've never really been obsessed with gear, so it doesn't bother me not being able to open the character sheet every 5 minutes.

Of course, you also can't "inspect" another player, or try on items in the "dressing room" view. Both crash just as the character panel does.

Minor update (and I'm sure someone will post a new thread about this soon enough) but the new vidcapping features crash my game. I can START a recording, but when I try to stop it... insta-crash.

Not sure if anyone here's interested in tackling that problem before we even get a fix for the graphics cards issue, but just thought I'd mention.

Thanks all!

Hi guys im new to this so dont get mad at me...

  1. installed patcher using crosstie
  2. installed all the extra components such as direct x and microsoft distributable
  3. i started patching and sometimes the connection would fail and i would have to start it again, but if there was not enough space for the full download it would not patch... any ideas?? im running out of programs to delete to keep my disk space free.

thanks in advance

If you're having drive space issues, the only real answer is buy a bigger hard drive. You;re going to be continually removing stuff to make space otherwise..

but i have enough space for the rest of the update but if the update fails for whatever reason it wants me to restart it from scratch which is what im trying to fix
