Who has this working and what issues?

As the title said what kind of issues are you having? I installed the demo and it ran fine! I then tried the lite version and it wouldn't start. So I am in the middle of downloading the full version and hopefully that works!

I am on CrossOver Games 8.0 and can't get neither one to run, even with these detailed instructions here:

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd7rg77m_23fnc8k6gs

Seems that the defaut profile folder he provides is a LITE folder. Either way (full Install or LITE install) I'm stuck with a blank white window in the end.

Anyone been more lucky than me?docs.google link

Hi,

After a bit of debugging and a degree of mucking around, I was
able to get the LITE version to start to main menu -- however
starting an actual game/session so far seems hard to do (there's
text missing from the menu I think, and the mouse-over hotspots,
although I can hear them, aren't doing anything ..but then, I've
no idea what I'm actually hearing) - I think it's complaining
about a missing font in the trace, but I haven't tried to nail
this down yet....

There is some more info on this title over at WineHQ AppDB...see;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2678

Looks like somebody has it working under wine-1.1.32 (COG-8.1.x is based
on wine-1.1.25) so perhaps this title will fair better in COG-9.0
when it's released...

If you want to know what I did to get the LITE version to main menu,
let me know (but it might be a waste of effort, seeing as I can't get
an actual game session to start..)

Otherwise I would suggest giving wine-1.1.32 a shot...

Cheers!

I got it to work fine in CrossOverGames 8.1.3, through the Google Docs link provided by Mr. Apex above (by Dan Parsons - thanks). I tried rFactor Lite for testing. Installed mods work as well (upped a screenshot for the Formula Vee Mod).

So far, not had any major issues on my 2009 2 GHz Mac mini w/9400M and 2 GB RAM, and Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

Only had to set the gfx standard into the rFactor gfx config program to DX8 instead of DX9 or Auto. With DX9, the graphics were jumbled up, although the program did run.

i am glad i didnt spend any money on this crossover joke this is way harder then instaling boot camp

That is why we provide free trials of our software. Supported apps are pretty easy to install and run in Crossover. Unsupported apps can range from 'pretty easy' to 'actually quite difficult' in terms of their installation and necessary tweaks. I'd put rFactor more in the latter category, judging by the complexity of the walk-through linked in Mr. Apex's post.

ok I'm registering just to help you guys out, because after a day of swearing and sweating, I finally managed to get it running on my macbook pro!

I'm just gonna say what I did.

Downloaded the full version 1.255 from their website.
installed it in a new xp bottle
followed the doc advices (the one linked above here)
then, after all, I just got the white window. That's because of the anti piracy system!!!

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/dmca

And if you are experiencing the black screen after the intro, that's because you NEED to install the DEFAULT profile folder, contained inside the doc above!

During my tests I deleted it, and forget to put it back! When I eventually found out, I just fixed that by copying the folder again, and everything worked great!

So, I hope my help is appreciated :P

Hi, I followed Mr. Apex's document word by word, when i open Rfactor the Image Space logo appears (everything good so far), then the Rfactor logo screen appears, at this point the main menu doesnt appears and gets stuck on this screen, I have the default profile, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Diego, the docs Mr. Apex and Dan Parsons supplied do work. But it can be a bear to get the configuration exactly right.
Maybe it's because you followed things to the letter that it won't start. It may have to be adapted to your configuration: resolution settings, file locations, etc. It's not only CrossOver that has to be configured right, but rFactor itself too (very much so, in fact).

In my case, what kept it from starting was having DX9/Auto selected in rFConfig.exe. Using CrossOver 8, switching to DX8 was what made it finally work. But you may have to fiddle with config.ini and .plist prefs files manually to get things started! (Unfortunately, because of that sending you my config may not work on yours. But, I'll put the CG and rF config files up anyway. http://www.mediafire.com/?a0z5od2zn7tp961 Hope it helps.)

The good news for CrossOver Games 9.1 is that rF does now work in DX9. It also seems a bit faster than CG V8.x.

The bad news is that in rF, it now produces - in both DX settings - a black shadow or black 'striping' towards the far end of the road, continuously. It's like a black 'haze' that continuously moves away from you. (Like faraway fog, but darkly black.) Very often this impedes the view of steer-in and brake points, rendering it nearly unusable. Note that it didn't do this in CG V8. I'm fairly sure it's a driver or filtering issue. Hopefully, someone from the CodeWeavers teams can look into this.

Once running, the sim itself performs almost flawless in CrossOver though! To me, that in itself is already a minor miracle (since there is a huge dearth in real sim programs for the Mac).

In CGames 10.0.1, this issue seems to be fixed. No gfx problems any more in this respect - seems to have been a CGames 9.x problem.

Yep, this now works pretty much 100% now, the only caveat being the create
video from replays function. I don't know why either ...I've had a couple of
looks at it, and nothing at all useful appears in debug about it - clicking
the 'Export' button simply and quietly dies after creating (what is a 0 length)
the avi filename....

...I've done crossties up for both this and the 'Lite' version, and it works
so well, I even bought the full game. The 'activmark' or whatever based online
activation system that connects with TryMedia works fine too, so you can buy a
license later and register the already downloaded content....

...seeing as I did buy it, I might pester someone in rfactor support vis what
exactly the video creation libraries need to work...

..works great with xbox 360 controllers -- in linux, the native xpad.ko driver
is enough : in OSX you'll likely need the Xbox 360 Controller Driver
installed for Xpad to work on the Mac.

I've not purchased the 'Pro' extension of the game that enables the builtin
download function (to download/install cars tracks etc from within the game
itself), so I don't know if that works (but probably expect it to when I do
go Pro B) -- that said, I have downloaded and installed extra cars/tracks &
seasons from rfactor central, and so far they all install/work just fine...

...I had a look at (and entered into C4) '3DSimEd' (which includes TrkMaker),
which you can use to edit/create tracks, or, import/export same from/to other
racing sims. I'm not convinced it's all that sane yet, but it does run (has issues
with gdi/gdiplus & opengl handling)... I might actually try it in CXO instead...
..and you'll need a 3D rendering program (Blender is rumored to work with it)..
so if you were using linux for example, you could do all your 3D modeling and
artwork in native Blender/Gimp, and then compile it with 3DSimEd into a working
track layout for whatever racing sim you choose...in theory =)

rFactor itself, is very, very good. I suppose that's a relative statement, as
the simulator rFactor was really created as a racing simulation engine designed
to be 'infinitely modifiable by the community' rather than just being 'another
racing simulator'. As a result, there is a smorgasbord of (freely available)
addon content that would be second to none, really...and it keeps getting added
to (I'm personally waiting for the DragFactor mod to be released). So much of
this is 'done so well', it astounded me...give you an example....

..someone in the rFactor community has recreated the (local to me) Queensland
Lakeside circuit ; fact is, some 30 odd years ago, I used to race street-bikes
around that very same track, and I still have the indelible mental imprint of
what that circuit is -actually-like- to race on. The recreation of this track
is extremely accurate, right down to the point of me finding bumps in the track
exactly where I know they are (in real life), and they cause you exactly the same
driving problems you have to deal with in real life as well - it is uncanny =)

I think that would be part of the point however - having people from all over
the world contributing to a common knowledge base, and creating locale specific
tracks/cars etc so you can make yourself feel 'at home' B^)

Cheers!
