The free version, available here: <removed link-Cupcake Ninja>
installs and runs pretty well. I haven't tried the various patches,
but they might help it work even better. I was having some issues in
fullscreen mode that went away when I went to windowed mode, but was
able to do some dogfighting.
From the site in question:
I've uploaded Red Baron 3d to my server for everyone to download!
<link removed>
Included: <not terribly related information, info about what is being downloaded>
Why is it ok for me to host these files here? Here's my quick legal rationale:
- The Sierra website hosts a free downloadable version of Red Baron II and a superpatch to upgrade to Red Baron 3D (this info thanks to <name removed>).
- The official game is no longer being made and distributed.
- I'm not profiting from this.
Please understand, from a legal standpoint sites that make claims such as the above are not necessarily legit. If a site/person does not have express rights to distribute an application/game/mp3, there are serious liabilities. Just because the official site has a 'free' copy with a patch to make it the next version available does not give anyone the right to also distribute it (and people can get in serious trouble for it). There are a lot of cases in the United States (CodeWeavers is a US based company and therefore must abide by US laws) where people are liable on a per transaction basis. For every person that they 'shared' something with (usually an mp3 file) they are required to pay a HUGE fine.
On top of that, we are liable under DMCA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act - decent explanation) to remove links like this when we receive notice of their existence or find them on our site. Please consider the source in the future when posting links like this.
