It is been an interesting day working with Wine and Crossover Office trying
to install RayTech RNS (Navigator) under Linux (openSUSE 12.3):

Of course it works fine under VirtualBox. But that involves using lots of
resources to support the entire Windows infrastructure and all its disc
grinding. So I wanted to try to get it to run somewhat natively under
Linux.
The first step was to try to install it under Wine directly. This
succeeded, both as root, and as user. "Succeeded" meaning that it correctly
installed to completion. However when I tried to run it it crashed with an
ominous message. So I uninstalled it from Wine and went to the next step.
The next step was to try to install it under PlayOnLinux. But it seems that
I no longer have that installed. So perhaps that is a task for tomorrow.
So, absent PlayOnLinux the final step was to try to use Crossover Office.
It succeeded further with Crossover Office than with the other attempts.
The splash screen appears but then it crashes again with the same message
as under Wine itself.
So it's probably something to do with Wine and not so much with Crossover
Office itself.
In any case, we cannot install it directly under Linux unless working with
PlayOnLinux will make a difference. But since the deficiency seems to be in
Wine itself, there's little hope for that.
