Quicken Subscription AKA 2020...my experience so far

Currently running QWIN Version R24.11 on CrossOver 19.0.1

I just started using CrossOver again when the Mac version of Quicken fell short of expectations...AGAIN. The saving grace is with the subscription model, I can download either Win or Mac version. So, I'm using Quicken for Windows (QWIN) on Crossover 19.0.1 and haven't run into any major issues. Everything syncs (OneStep, Quicken Cloud)and the Quicken Update feature does work inside the application as well. Because it syncs well, I've had no issues with with Quicken iOS app sending or receiving file updates so everything shows current.

I use OneDrive for my Quicken file storage and backup location so I can access it on my Mac as well as a Windows PC...no issues there. Just remember if you do this, close the Quicken app on the computer you're using once you're done with your session because it will corrupt the file if two concurrent computers are trying to access the same file. This comes directly from Quicken's support page.

If I come across any hiccups, etc I'll post them here as well as notify the Support Team.

Which Quicken version was this? Standard, Deluxe, or Premier?

I have had a pretty similar experience on MacOS Catalina with 19.0.1. Except:

  1. I have to disable my Avira (free version) antivirus otherwise it wrongly detects crossover as containing malware and deletes various files, which breaks crossover.
  2. i get a warning from MacOS every time I start quicken "“15787379150e1ae47d28786f0da3fcf67d8b253e.asset” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified." If I click Cancel everything seems to work. No idea what would happen if i clicked "Delete"
  3. the top menu bar is almost completely hidden - this contains the help link, the general search box, etc.

I still have the older version of Crossover running on another Mac with Quicken 2017 so haven't tried one step update etc. But the clock is ticking for that.

I am getting the same .asset issue. But, if I click "cancel", I get another one with a different file.

Any idea?

I'm having the same problem. I have to run Quicken in Parallels now. How can I get it to work?

Bring up Parallels and install Windows 10. Then install Quicken 2020.
It works fine on Parallels and VMware.

Hello Glenn,

Thank you for writing us. I have seen this issue with a couple of user's and the trend seem to be with actually restoring from a TM backup. You can get around the issue by disabling the mac's Gatekeeper, one of the built-in security measures in macOS. You can do this by opening the terminal application and entering

sudo spctl --master-disable

then hit enter and it will prompt for your Admin password. Note you will not see the password when typing and hit enter. Run your application in crossover so that the settings are cached. After this, you can re-enable Gatekeeper, but please note the issue will return after rebooting the computer. If you leave Gatekeeper disabled, you won't see the error again. To re-enable Gatekeeper, you can enter

sudo spctl --master-enable
in a terminal again.

It will work if you continue to hit cancel. Mine takes 70 or so clicks.

Both infinitely better than Parallels.
