Can't Register Quicken 2012 -> Can't Download Stock Prices

I've got a new copy of Quicken 2012 running in OSX and am migrating data from Quicken for Mac.

The program runs pretty well all things considered and installed okay, too.

I've seen these problems:

  1. Fonts don't scale correctly. So certain dialog boxes don't look right, with words cut off. Not a major problem, but quirky. Fonts are not anti-aliased, so screens look pretty crude.

  2. Quicken 2012 apparently has a bug with QIF imports that enters all transfers between accounts as two transfers. Quicken support says I have to go in a delete each duplicate. Pretty frustrating, but no fault of Crossover.

  3. The main impediment right now -- I can't register Quicken. Without registration I can't download stock prices. Quicken connects to its server just fine and then asks for my information. But when I hit "register," I get this:

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /main.aspx

Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I register outside of the app somehow? Any settings I can change?

Many thanks!

Steve

Steve,
There is a well documented solution for the registration glitch. I don't recall the exact details, but it's not complicated -- something like hold down control key while clicking continue.

Search this forum for "can't register" and you'll probably find it.

David

David,
You rock, brother.

The answer, for others reading this thread, is to hold down Control+Shift and select Tools>One Step Update.

You get a message that says "you will no longer be asked to register." And, low and behold, after that, you can download quotes and historical prices.

Details are here:

Thanks again!
Steve

Just for the sake of letting everyone know a little more about this, the problem with registration is that it requires Internet Explorer, which is not installed together with the Quicken installer. So if you have a new bottle where you installed Quicken, you have no Internet Explorer. All you have to do is install Internet Explorer into that same bottle and voila. Now you can register, and update, etc.

Regards,
Alan

I am lost in trying to install Quicken 2012. The Run Command window tells me it is unable to "find the default bottle. I then get caught up is a loop that goes from that window back to another Run Command that ask for a Use Bottle and I cannot fill in that space and when I press Run I get the other Run Command window and so on and so forth.
