Quicken 2006 Forum

just purchased q'06 and am trying to restore from another computer and download transactions from my bank. i am able to do neither. the restore from the other computer has the file names changed and quicken doesn't recognize them (of course, neither do i). as for the download from the bank since i cannot download transactions from quicken, i go as far as web connect, at which point i get a screen that says "ie".

i'm too old for this program but my oldest son has been trying to get me to use a linux system for 10 years and i finally caved in.

can anyone help me?

I'm new to Quicken but I transfer my quicken data just by copying across whatever the files are it normally uses and don't bother with doing a backup first and then restoring it to another computer. If your bank/financial institution doesn't support direct connect (You give Quicken a username and password and it downloads everything automatically) you can use the web connect method just fine. I've had problems with ie in Crossover Office with some of my banks but the most secure route anyway is to use Firefox natively in Linux. Just open up your web browser, go to your bank, and you can download your transactions locally. Once you've downloaded the qif or web connect file, from within Quicken on the File menu choose import and then navigate to wherever you downloaded the file to. The directory layout will be different but once you get used to where things are you'll be fine. If that doesn't work just let me know.
