1628 error and a possible workaround

Hi everyone

On cxoffice 3.0.1 on gentoo, I was getting the 1628 error as well. It seems that the 1628 error is from installsheild complaining about not able to get correct access to the ms installer stuff. So here is what I did -

  1. Install IE 6 from a clean install of cxoffice.
  2. Install Adobe acrobat reader version 6.0 (follow the comments in that forum for instructions)
  3. Install the msinstaller from the quicken disk - instmsia.exe
  4. Install Quicken 2004 Premier.

Adobe seems to install a version of the installer that gets past the 1628 error. You might try some other apps as well.

If someone could duplicate this, would be great.
