Quickbooks Pro 2004 Installs and Runs

I haven't tested the application completely, but I have not run into any errors so far. I did not expect this. Sample companies work well. I've even loaded and converted a back-up 2003 file and it worked flawlessly.

The install worked without a hitch with one exception. You need to point the installer at qbooks/setup.exe instead of the 'setup.exe' or 'autorun.exe' in the top level folder on the CDROM.

All the associations are made, icons, etc, etc. Everything looks good.

I am running Crossover 3.0.1 on SuSE 9.1 Pro.

Adam,

Your suggestion put me on the right track to getting QB Pro 2004 Premier Accountant's Edition running on my Linux (Fedora Core 2) workstation under COO 3.0.1. To expand on your work, I had to do the following:

  1. After the install process finished, QB wants to reboot to complete its installation. This is where I believe my install was failing. Apparently, the reboot cycle was not completing as QB expected so the install was only partially complete, which is why the application would start to launch, then flash back into an icon. I found a file in the QB program directory named "reboot.bat". This file is most likely run to fill the registry with values QB wants/needs to execute on start-up. Going back to the COO installer, I asked it to install this unsupported "reboot.bat" file, which it did. I then had to reboot Linux. After logging in, QB would load and ask for registration information. After that, the sample company files seemed to work fine.

  2. Things sort of cracked-up after the automatic update from Intuit. It seemed that the update went ok, that the installation of the updates went OK, but when the program reloaded, it "forgot" its registration information and came back with a different installed serial #, which did not match the registration #. At that point I got stuck, so I reinstalled several times, just for good practice.

  3. The QB Premier Accountant's Edition has a "Fixed Asset Manager" application, which is essential for computing tax-basis depreciation. This application ran once, then the menu item disappeared. Can't explain it. Once it's gone, I don't know how to get it back, without a reinstall of QB. The Edit-->Preferences-->IntegratedApplication configration seemed to get confused when I tried to enable the FAM, acting like I was trying to set a closing date password. The Accountant's Navigator still shows the FAM link, but it is no-op.

I'll try to keep this area updated as I progress.

I have not had any luck getting this to work. I am using Suse 9.1 and Crossover 4.0. I have followed the advice that you folks had with no luck. Freezes up on splash screen.

I'm having this exact issue with Fedora Core 3 (kernel-2.6.9-1.681_FC3). I installed using the regular install (autorun.exe), AND the /qbooks/setup.exe. Both seem to work the same. When install is done, the program acts like it's starting (shows the splash screen), then just goes away. So I ran the ~/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Program Files/Intuit/QuickBooks Pro/reboot.bat file, which seemed to run just fine. After that, the program starts to open (splash screen), AND I see the program behind the splash screen (I get menus like File Edit View Lists etc), but then it freezes. Running "Reset CrossOver Office" and choosing "Close" will shut it down. After a reboot of Linux...I still have the same problem. I feel SO close!

Neither have I. I've tried installing on RH9 and Crossover 4.0. I just tried it again with Suse 9.2 and Crossover 4.1. I've tried all of the suggestions here and it doesn't even make it through the install process.

Any one have any ideas? I really need this to work. I haven't had any problem installing and running Quicken 2002.

Thanks.

I successfully installed Quickbooks 2004 Premier Retail edition uses tips from this threads (ie the reboot.bat). I am trying to use this in a multi user evironment and seem to be having troubles that I can not pin point.

I am using 4.2, qb starts up fine and loads company fine, but then after a few minutes it just freezes up and stays that way. I have to kill the process. The sample file does the sames thing, it just takes longer before it does.

I tried the IRC for help and was told to wait for 5.0 to be released and see if works then. :( Not the answer I was hoping for as I only bought this software so that I could use quickbooks.

If anyone can offer any help that would be great.

I'm under the impression that there are problems with file locking when QB is run under CrossOver, so that causes problems for multiuser support.

I only want to use QB in single user mode, but it's barely usable (Bronze level support), and it's been that way for the entire life of CrossOver. Either CodeWeavers is unwilling or unable to improve the support for QB, which makes no sense. There is a huge customer demand for QB support, and lack of QB support is keeping a large number of small businesses from converting to Linux.

This has been very frustrating, in the otherwise pleasant experience of using Linux.

I hope CodeWeavers will realize the importance of QuickBooks support, but after all the user voices screaming in unison and the overwhelming silence from CodeWeavers, I'm not optimistic.

Like Ryan and many others, I bought CrossOver only to run QuickBooks. I could not care less if it runs Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, or any of the other big Windows applications that I long ago replaced with better native Linux applications.

If CodeWeavers is no better at supporting QuickBooks, and refuses to work on improving QB support despite a lot of user requests and monetary pledges, I might as well use Wine instead of buying CrossOver.
