Multi-user help please?

I am using CrossOver 5.0.1 and have successfully installed QB Pro 2002 on Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy). My QB file is on the Ubuntu box. It runs fine in single-user mode, but I cannot seem to get it working in Multi-user. It will open fine and work in multi-user as long as only one user is signed in.

I am mapping to a Samba share on an Win XP box to try to connect a QB Pro 2002 client to the Ubuntu QB file. If an Ubuntu user is signed into the QB file, the Win XP QuickBooks complains and wont connect. If the Win XP QB user is signed into the QB file, then Ubuntu Quickbooks complains and wont connect.

The Ubuntu Samba share is wide open and both the share folder and QB file are chmod'ed +777.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

My experience in a Multi-user QB environment is nil.

Even in a Windows environment.

In my company, I am the only one who uses Quickbooks, so I've never had a need for a multiuser environment.

I will spend some time experimenting with it, and see if I can offer any assistance, but at the moment, Im sorry, I have none for your situation.

CJ

Thanks. I got it working finally. Apparently the issue was with a Samba option called "oplocks". After gleaning info from many different google searches, I finally ended up with a Samba configuration that works. This is the /etc/samba/smb.conf file on the Ubuntu 5.10 workstation where the Quckbooks 2002 file resides:

Start file

[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
netbios name = UBUNTU
server string = SAMBA server
security = share
local master = yes
os level = 35
wins support = no

[Share]
comment = Shared Folder
path = /home/ubuntu/qbooks
public = yes
writable = yes
guest ok = yes
available = yes
browseable = yes
oplocks = no
level2 oplocks = no
inherit permissions = yes
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 0775

End file

Note: "path = /home/ubuntu/qbooks" is the directory where the QBW file resides.

Cheers.

Glad you got it working!

And thanks so much for posting your resolution. Maybe it will help someone else who is having a similar problem.

Can you clarify if you have this working in a multi user environment? Last time I tested it did _very_badthings(tm) with two users.

I don't think this is really working - if Mr Teets couuld contact William Olinger and find out if it is really working??
