Error in quickbooks 2002 update

I get this error, "Failed to initialize update module. Id=1AD. ActiveXcomponent can't read object"
I have seen where other people have asked about this question, but haven't seen a fix. Any help would be great. I would hate to go back to windows just for this bug...
