Isengard - Lotro update, can't patch.

Isengard comes out tomorrow, so there was an update today. How do I get the update? when I tried to run the patch, it wouldn't work.

This is the error i get in the console:

Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80

Connection to patch server failed error code: 0x80041003
Failed to connect to the patch server: OEC_E_CONNECTIONFAILED(0x80041003)

Connection to patch server failed error code: 0x80041003
Failed to connect to the patch server: OEC_E_CONNECTIONFAILED(0x80041003)

Connecting to patch.lotro.com:80

Connection to patch server failed error code: 0x80041003

Finished

I get the same thing, can't patch today.

Connection to patch server failed error code: 0x80041003
Failed to connect to the patch server: OEC_E_CONNECTIONFAILED(0x80041003)

shrug

As a rough guess the world and his donkey are trying to update to the patch server is probably overloaded. A quick look on the lotro forums show people having update problems that are using the proper launcher.

From my Windows on VMWare Log file:

Begin update: productCode="LOTRO" language="English" server="patch.lotro.com" port="80"
9/26/2011 4:41:14 PM Connect: Waiting
9/26/2011 4:41:15 PM Patch error: A connection attempt failed. (0x80041003)

I suppose if it doesn't help if I am me and my donkey... ;)

The real answer is the patch servers are overloaded...

Sapience has been "twitting" all day about how overloaded the patch servers are... but only about 18:17 EDT posted something in the "News box"

Additionally, I have managed to patch "phase 1" three times tonight. Then die, trying to connect again for the next Phase.
(I think I remember either 3 or 4 patch phases).

One frequently dies with: "Checking data ... OnNetworkDisconnected()" on the next pass.

The question I have is.. Does PyLotRO "try again" at that point. It seems to just hang so I abort at that point, exit, then re-launch "patch" ... till It gets connected long enough to do the data check and then begin patching.

No the patch is fire and forget, when it finished or timesouts it is assumed it works, it does two file patches followed by a data patch. I've replied in the lotro forum with a bit more info.

Well, this morning I was able to go through the complete patch, however, doing that I now get a new error message ...

"Game Error [201] - Can't open data files. Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. The program will now exit. [201]"

At which point you push okay, then you get the same error again. click okay again... No Game.

Buggers!!!

From the lotro forum here it sounds like you need to reinstall VC 2005 due to an update but some how I don't think that is causing your problem. That error used to exist regularly years back when lotro was first released and we were trying to get it started (way before even the cli launcher), if I remember right it was something to do with parameters to the main game client rather than a permissions error, as the message suggests but that was years ago. It could be because of the failed patching, some rubbish left that is causing problems but I really am guessing now.

So, the next question would be.... So, how do I fix it? ...

Borrowed from the thread in the lotro forum:

"Crossover Games -> Configure -> Manage Bottle -> Application Tab

Clicked on Install Software -> Runtime Support Components -> Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable "

But that might not be your problem, it's worth a go though.
