PuTTY doesn't seem to work in CrossOver Games 9.0.0

PuTTY no longer seems to work at all in CrossOver Games 9.0.0. Nothing happens when the .exe file is opened using CrossOver, and if I try using the CrossOver installation interface, the whole install hangs on the "Installing Other Application" part. It doesn't seem to matter what type of Bottle I try to run it in, either

It used to work before, using either of the above methods. Why the change?

Hi,

It's possible the new version of CXG has broken things - that said,
the 'purist' view here would be that putty is an app, not a game, and
you should be using CXO to run this 8) I only mention this because while
it is true this could be deemed a regression (wrt CXG..ie; worked in 8.x
but doesn't in 9.0), the devs might not truly consider it that...(and
then especially so if it still works in CXO-9.0.1)...also, there is the
point that Mac and linux have their own telnet/ssh clients anyhow, and
so Putty might not get a very high priority as a result (and an even lower
one wrt CXG 8)...

I would suggest downloading the demo of CXO-9.0.1 and seeing if Putty
still runs in that crossover version ; if it doesn't still work in the
non-games version of crossover 9, please post back here and let us know...

Cheers!

Heh, unless you use PuTTY to connect to old text-based games, then it's a game client :D

But silliness aside, it does seem to be working fine under CXO-9.0.1. I can't blame the devs for not caring about it in CXG, especially since it does duplicate functionality already present in Mac and Linux. I was just wondering if there was some obvious setting or option change I missed with the new install process.

Thanks for your time!

Haha...(voice over) "Use PuTTY...the game client!" ... 8^)

It's a valid observation though...I will install it here sometime
today just for a check to see if there's any obscure tweak you can
effect to get it working -- be aware however, my testing will be
relative to linux (you haven't mentioned what OS you're using).

Mind you...I just checked over at wineHQ and it seems putty works
very well in earlier/stable wine releases;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7888

If this were an option (that suited your usage of putty), you might
try installing stable wine and running putty with that?

Cheers!

edit: confirming what you've found -- works in CXO-9.0.1 but not in
CXG-9.0 -- I suppose if you were on linux, one would just grab the source
and compile your own gtk based client....if you're on Mac, the links
below may be of interest..;
