I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem? When i click on Portal in Steam it says Opening Portal and then and white flash happens and it puts me back to the games list. Please assist.

Are you using an older Mac or Linux computer with intel integrated graphics or does it have an ATI or Nvidia card?
If it does run intel integrated graphics then try some of the launch option codes in "Tips and Tricks"
