usb support

Ron (or anyone),
do you know if anyone has succeeded in getting the USB interface
working rather than the serial interface? Otherwise I seem to get
the same results/work arounds you list under tips & tricks &
known issues.

I think at least part of my problem is that linux itself is not
detecting that I have a USB device plugged in (at least on the system
I'm currently playing with). After that I'm not sure if I can use a procedure
similar to what is listed for making syncing work with USB for ipods with the IR link.

Once I get s710d working again I plan on trying the ipod procedure to see
if it does anything unless someone knows otherwise.

I haven't heard anything about USB support to CX Office. I know it (still) doesn't work in basic Wine.

The Polar watches are pretty finicky about IR ports. The IR port on my laptop (Compaq Armada) doesn't work with my s710 under windows, and a friend just mentioned she had to buy a Polar IR unit to use with her s720i because her computer's built in port won't work with it.

I too would like to see this work, and am willing to help. I will be trying to get this to work on Mac OS X via DarWINE. I have a PC that I keep around JUST to run this silly app (and Polar WebLink). I have a 720i and am looking at getting a new watch. I have both the serial and USB devices. The USB device is VERY unlikely to work. The device is NOT truly USB compliant. I had a USB engineer here at Apple look at the device (was previously trying to get it to work with VirtualPC on a mac). The USB device would not be properly identified, and thus the windows driver for it wouldn't load. If you use the serial device you can use a USB/Serial adapter BUT the serial support in VPC was not fast enough to deal with signaling for the serial port (serial support via emulation is very hard in general). So VPC was not an option BUT I do have both devices and am willing to help in any way I can. Do we know if ANY serial port using apps with with USB adapters & CW/Wine? If so we may be able to get this to work.

We can't be the only 3 that want this to work!! 😎

Well I tied the new USB/IRDA adapter under Parallels and it work like a chanp. Problems with Crossover will be twofold. First the application won't install in a crossover "container". Socond as we mentioned WILL it work with IR? The new USB device DOES have Mac OS X drivers (as well as linux) so there is HOPE for the device to be seen by Mac OS X. Then it's a question of how crossover presents the device via the windows apis to Polar Peak Pref.

In short, and I wish it wasn't the case, if you want PPP via your intel Mac, get Parallels works like a champ. Remember you have to also buy a copy of Windows until somone get'sCorssover to support this...
