Game installs but freezes after initial spawn in game

CrossOver Linux 12.2.1
Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit
NVIDIA Driver 319.23

No problem with installation and game works fine on the character selection screen.

After picking a character and loading the game freezes almost instantly then crashes.

Pastebin of backtrace.txt from Wine

Is there any other info I should include or extra debugging info that might be useful.

I just bought Crossover today to test out with this game to see if it handled it any better than just wine + winetricks.

However this is not the case and since it appears it is not a 'supported application' I'm not sure I can file a ticket about it.

If anyone has any more insight I'm willing and able to do more testing and provide feedback.

Hi,

You can file a support ticket about unsupported games, but it's quite likely that we don't know a solution either. Unfortunately I have no quick idea what's wrong exactly - the crash you get is a NULL pointer dereference, which is a pretty generic problem ☹️

Stefan

After doing some more digging I found a few hints at what may be causing the issue.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33341#2

I'm not really sure if that's related at all since it does say that appdb says it currently works with changes done to the game. However it doesn't hurt to post this anyways.

As for filing a bug for an unsupported application. I should not use the dropdown and just populate the field with the name of this game?

What kind of information is good to include will the information I posted above suffice or should I include extra things?

I appreciate the reply so thank you very much. I didn't buy the software expecting it would work with this title but I thought more customers that show interest in a specific application/game would at least get it noticed.

The bugreport you linked has a comment from today suggesting that this issue is fixed. It's quite likely that this was fixed by a change to the game, not a change to Wine. From the description of the bug I'd expect the game to crash on Windows XP, but I could be mistaken.

Ah well that may have been in the case in the past but I believe it is broken again due to updates to the game.

I really wish there was more debugging output to go on.

I noticed if I run the game with the same command from a terminal windows

"/home/cosmo/.cxoffice/PlanetSide 2/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^3A_users_crossover_Start+Menu/Programs/PlanetSide 2.lnk" %u

I can see the output of the program and it uploads some data to the makers of Planetside 2

Unfortunately it deletes these files that it sends afterwards so there is no way I get a chance to look at them myself.

After your comment I did file a ticket about this game along with my wine backtrace that I posted in this thread.
