Only an old verison of Picasa works (v2 Build 18.84)

If I use the latest (or even a slightly older version) of Picasa 2 I cannot move files from one folder to another. It comes up with an error and Picasa shuts down. Also, the drives (c/y/z) show up with a weird path in the Folder Manager (not the actual path, but something inside of Crossover). I don't have time to write up the whole problem right now. I just wanted to post this quickly in case someone has a quick solution. Otherwise I will post more once I have more time.

Now, Picasa 2 Build 18.84 does work for me so far. But that is a very old version. I would love to use the latest (or at least a newer) verion.

Anybody else experience/solve this?

Also, here's the Picasa 2 version that does work for me: http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26902&query=windows+98&topic=&type=

Donovan, this older version does seem to work better for me as well, at least in terms of granting the ability to rename files and move them across folders. (I had the same shut-down issues as you with the latest Picasa). However, I have a question for you: does this Win98 version let you view videos too? For me, Picasa shows only the pictures and not the AVI videos I have in any given folder. I was thinking that this version of Picasa might simply not support movies, but I'm doubting that, because the option to view movie files is in Tools>Options>File Types.

Additionally, if anyone from CodeWeavers is reading this: as expressed by Donovan, the latest version of Picasa is almost entirely useless if one cannot move/rename files. I don't see why the Win98 version of Picasa is more compatible in this highly important regard. Might there be an easy tweak for you to make the latest Picasa compatible such that we don't resort to using an ancient version?

I am currently using the trial version of CrossOver, with the sole intention of trying out Picasa. For me at least, I will only buy CrossOver if these crucial Picasa issues (ability to manipulate and move files) are resolved. Otherwise, it isn't worth much to me. It mostly works, but needs this one issue fixed.

Thanks.

I haven't tried videos yet. I'm a photographer and I don't even have a video function on my Nikon D70 so I don't worry too much about video. Really, if I could just move files, then I would be the happiest camper ever since everything else I need seems to work.

But, I too am using a trial version of Crossover and still debating whether to use Parallels instead. I mean, on Amazon.com Parallels is only $65.

Picasa is so close to having all major functionality.
