Played fine. Then, after rebooting comp, asks for CD!

Hi there.

I played Pharaoh perfectly for a couple of hours. Then it froze for some unknown reason so I had to turn my comp off with the off/on button. Once I rebooted, everything looked fine but when I went to start up Pharaoh again, it asked me to insert the CD! Ah! What? It opened up CrossOver as normal but when I clicked "run already installed game" or whatever, the "please invert pharaoh CD" dialogue box popped up. Help?

To ask a potentially silly question - did you have the CD in the drive? Pharaoh is a game that requires the CD to play, just like under Windows.

To ask another potentially silly question... Mac or Linux?

This somehow seems to be related to upgrading existing Pharaoh installs.

I just tried playing my old install of Pharaoh (installed via CXG somewhere around version 7-8) on my Mac (Snow Leopard) and it asked me for the CD even though it was in the drive. However when I made a fresh install using CX 11.0.3 it works just fine. I've just copied my saved games over from the old version, performed the screen size workaround, restarted my computer to make sure that's not related and it's all working just fine on the new version. The old version still asks for a CD.

I'll make a tip and trick

Haha I figured it out.

I'm playing it on a Mac and I didn't realise I had to open the .iso file to "insert the CD". Alllll good now, thank you!

Sorry, but I just don't get it. I am new to Crossover. Just downloaded the trial version (v11) on my Mac (OS X 10.5.8) to see if it runs Pharaoh, my favourite game from the days I owned worse computers. I installed it from my own Pharaoh CD (german version), but when I try to start it in Crossover, I am asked for the CD, although it's in the drive. Can anyone explain what I have to do, in simple words a newbie understands? Thx

It seems to me that you've done everything right, and the issue you've come up against is specific to the German version.

There's a wine bug (resolved) for this that indicates that the German version has Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, which isn't supported very well on mac

If you are in a legal jurisdiction which allows removal of DRM, you may have luck running this program. Unfortunately, CodeWeavers, because they are subject to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, will be unable to support you.

David, thank you. The link you provided was really helpful.
