fantasy star universe

just bought this game yesterday on DVD, and tried to install it today on my Mandriva linux notebook, but to no avail, it won't work. I want to play the game, but the following error messages crop up when I use "error logging seh":

This is me again, and I'm a newbie to linux and crossover. I'm confused as to if this game even works. And for some reason the game tries to download something called "gameguard" when I try to 'RUN' the game. Hmm. I'm confused. Should I give up and look for another game.. Hmm. Maybe Steam Titanquest? (which I couldn't get to run on Mandriva Linux either.....). I only got one game working, and that's Steam game download client with the Archon game. My wine version appears to be Wine 1.2. Perhaps that is a problem... If Linux is this confusing, maybe I should switch to Microsoft Windows as my main operating system... I'm tearing my hair out with Linux sometimes when I try to run Windows programs/software xD

Thank you very much! =) =) =)

I'm so frustrated, but I guess I'm a newbie.. =) =)

But come to think of it, I think my notebook is a little slow so some games are too advanced to play on it, but I HOPE to get 2-3 games working on it so I can keep myself busy and also recoup the cost of my games for now =) =) =) =) =) =) =)

Hi,

When you see gameguard, expect the answer no ; it does not work
in Crossover/Wine, and it's somewhat polemical if it ever will..see;

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3952

Some folks maintain GG will -never- work in wine, but that's a bit
presumptuous (GG may change in the future, who knows)...but right
now, that bug is is likely to remain an issue for a long time yet....

...also, a few words of advice -- avoid purchasing CD/DVD releases
of games unless you are absolutely positive the disc doesn't have a DRM
mechanism on it (copy protection) - a lot (most) of these disc based
DRM mechanism do not work in linux, and pretty much all of them will
not work on the Mac due to the OSX scsi driver design. If you wish to
minimize purchasing disappointments when using Crossover/Wine, head
for a digital download version - don't buy discs. Have a look here;

Cheers!

Wow! Fast response time too =) I appreciate the friendly responses! And the good information!! =) =) Hmm. Yes, Thank you very much !! =) =) I appreciate all the hard work everyone is putting into Crossover, very good. Again, Thank you very much for the helpful information!! I'll stick with Linux, I'm also thinking of putting on a "main" as a Windows computer as well as the "main" as a Linux computer that I already have, so I can play the esoteric Windows programs without hitches as well (like DRM DVD's).. Well, my Fantasy Star Universe DVD only costed $10, so it's not anything really. Have a good day Everyone =)

Again, I can't stress Keep up the Good Work! :) :)
