I found this over at WineHQ but not sure how to apply the solution to Crossover:

They list installing to a new "wine prefix" and using winetricks to install some extra libs from MS. Anyone know how this would translate to Crossover?

About half way down the page..."Text is much more readable after adding the following into the Wine registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]
"Fontin SmallCaps"="Fontin"
I don't know how to edit the wine registry, but I wonder if that would fix it as well.
I'm open to any instructions.

Awesome! When in doubt, reading the instructions is always the best bet.
Not only that, but this key actually fixed the fonts in the game.
