Desktop fails, hotsync works

Palm Desktop 4.1 installs but upon execution returns the following:

No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\X11DRV.DLL' (0x40c20000)
No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSIMG32.DLL' (0x41ae0000)
No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINEOSS.DRV' (0x41b00000)
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000004 in 32-bit code (0x40a63488).
In 32-bit mode.

This is only a partial of the output. I think the "Unhandled exception: page fault" is the significant event.

The good news is that I have had good success using hotsync with my Palm Tungsten C via wifi. I tried it with a serial sync cable and, while it attempted to sync, it was unsuccessful. Hotsync came up, but couldn't establish communication.

Another transient problem occurred when hotsync told me a PC application (obviously a Windows app) wasn't responding. Unfortunately, Hotsync told me that Palm Desktop would tell me which application was at fault -- and, of course, Palm Desktop won't run! So, I was left with unistalling and re-installing all Palm apps, which has (so far) worked -- fortunately with no data loss.

One last note. Several of the Palm-related apps use a splash screen which won't minimize and which hides the install screens that come up later. This can be overcome by hitting Alt-F2 to bring up a command line, then cancelling the command line window. This serves to bring the install windows forward of the splash screen.

Tech notes: Suse 9.0, KDE, Pentium 3 - 900 MHz
