Absolutely not a clickbait, now that I have your attention with my title, allow me to explain how I did it.
There had been threads about using a virtual machine as a workaround to install Origin, but all of them are saying to use a WinXP guest system to install the legacy version of the program. There is no need for that anymore. It is totally fine for you to install Origin normally in a Windows 10 guest system, once you done that, find the two folders in the guest system's Program Files x86, one is named Origin, and the other one is Origin Games (should be empty, because it will fill up with games as you install more games). Copy both folder over to your Linux desktop directly from the guest system. Now, I know there are a lot of choices when it comes to virtual machine software, but my personal favorite is VMWare Workstation, I have the latest 15.5 version, and the biggest improvement of starting from ver 15 is the support of Direct X10 and up to 3GB of video RAM. Plus VMWare made moving files between host an guest very easy, just drag and drop.
Please move the folders to a CrossOver bottle's Windows file path of your choice, usually is /home/.cxoffice/(bottlename)/(familiar Windows file path)
After you done that, additional software needed to be installed in the bottle: All of the Visual C++ redistributables from 2005 to 2014, and the DirectX for modern games. Origin will not install games and complains about missing libraries if you don't have these in the bottle. You can use CrossTie to install all of them.
Here are some additional technical information in case anyone wants to know:
CrossOver bottle: Windows 10 64bit
Crossover Version: 19.0 beta 2 (I am a beta tester of the new 19.0 version, if you have access of the beta center, I also have a report of this in there)
Linux OS: Zorin 15 (based on Ubuntu 18.04)
The games I tested so far are Command & Conquer 3 and Kane's Wrath. Sims 4, and Apex Legends. C&C3 works great, Sims 4 complains that Origin is not running (it is ), and Apex Legends just flat out crashes.
