I'm trying to Install Mass Effect (1) and I have Origin installed. When I click "Download" it just gets stuck on"preparing Download...". Is there a work around?

I'm using CrossOver 13.0.0 and Origin 9.3.10.4710

I did, just now, get an error message (after about 10 minutes) saying "An unspecified download error has occured. Please cancel and restart your download. Error 7049.408". This is apparently an issue, but some seem to have found a work around.

[edit] This may be an extension of the issue in [url=http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=9509;forum=1;msg=141305]this thread[/url], but I don't know. If that was all, I could download the game in a VM or something, and then transfer it over I suspect.

Short version: no. Origin is basically unusable on wine/CrossOver.

Long version: there are some patches for wine but they're probably in too bad a shape to be accepted. Check the page below from time to time to track progress on the issue or lack thereof:

I see. So is this one of those fundemantal things that can't be fixed, such as using a part of Windows that can't legally be used outside of Windows, or something that just needs time?

I guess it needs some developer love/attention, more votes and more pushy advocates.
