Orcs Must Die! 2

Hey, I have a 2012 13" macbook pro (Intel HD4000), mac os x 10.8.2 and the trial version of CrossOver 12.0.0 running the windows steam client and then orcs must die 2 within that and the game starts up and goes to the menu, everything looks fine although the menu animations are very slow and sluggish but when I try and play any level, the character, all objects and terrain are all invisible! only the skybox, rifts, doors and mob pathway lines are visible so its like floating in the sky with random objects floating around! The sound seems to work fine though.

What I've tried so far:
-reset the computer
-setting graphics to low
-setting to windowed mode
-lower resolutions

Nothing seems to work, I'm new to this stuff so If someone could very kindly offer some help I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm afraid that the Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated GPU is not powerful enough to render all of Orcs2; I know because I've tried with my new late-2012 Mac Mini which also has the same GPU as your Mac and it just doesn't work. The min spec of Orcs2 as specified on the Steam store page says: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon x1950 or better with 256MB VRAM. Unfortunately the HD4000 doesn't meet the min spec.

I've seen some videos on youtube with people claiming the HD4000 was able of running the game, but on Windows. With Crossover, where Direct3D gets "translated" to OpenGL I guess it comes down to how well does the driver support OpenGL. On linux I recall it was not that great and I expect pretty much the same or even worse with Macs. You could fill in a support ticket and maybe a ninja will be able to help or at least explain better the technicalities.

Can you file a support ticket for this? My gut feeling is that the graphics should render correctly, no matter how weak the GPU is. Furthermore, I'd say a modern Intel GPU should be able to keep up with a GeForce 6800. The game probably won't run at full HD with all shiny graphics, but should be playable on low settings.

Of course there could be driver bugs that prevent the game from running, but we won't know until we've looked at it.

Thankyou so much for such a prompt reply, unfortunately I can't get a support ticket, I'm only investigating how well the trial works at the moment. (it works very well, apart from the game - Im very impressed with this wine thing) I've found other games don't want to play nice with the Intel graphics too. However there are many on youtube'rs and tech blogers who claim to be running games like battlefield 3, call of duty black ops, skyrim, batman arkam city... on the 2012 intel HD4000 (on low settings) with out any problems. I was wondering whether the PC steam client running through crossover may have incorrectly downloaded/installed the game's files or perhaps some of the game's files or code have been corrupted, misplaced or removed in the crossover processes...

I may just have to try reinstalling it through the client but if it still doesn't work then I'l just have to go with the bootcamp idea... (windows 7 is so over-priced)

Any other suggestions?

Fantastic news! Adding the direct3D_SLGL_enabled string to the Steam bottle has completely solved the problem, now it works really well! YAY

(to bad i've had to reinstall everything after a fiasco trying to install Skyrim from the disk, all a learning experience)

That's cool. Where and how do I add that string to my Steam bottle on my Mac? I'm just getting started with Crossover so I'm unfamiliar with the directory and file layouts for the bottle(s).
