Hi,
I labored a bit two months ago with a very helpful Nitro technical rep to get Nitro PDF professional running under Crossover Linux 6.2. We sort of got things working but had problems with sticky notes and highlighting, which are two key function for anyone who reviews PDF documents.
Today I upgraded my Crossover to 7.1 and tried Nitro (demo, version 5.4.1.7) I had installed earlier. Highlighting, Sticky notes, pencil... nearly everything I tried, works fine! Two rather small problems remain:
1) The program hangs when trying to open the bookmarks pane if there are no bookmarks. If there are bookmarks, they work, and you can add more. If you have alternate means to get a first bookmark into the document (hang on to Acrobat 5 if you have it) everything is fine.
2) There are oddly shaped blank spaces where the menu icons should be. That sounds not too hard to fix.
Notes from the earlier install:
- Use a new bottle, W2k (maybe XP too).
- Install IE6
- Install MDAC 2.8 (get it from the Microsoft website)
- Install Nitro
I'll buy a copy of Nitro, reinstall it, and report here if I encounter any problems or bug fixes.
For me, this is a great milestone in my use of Linux. Others who do research (and thus routinely annotate PDF) might celebrate too. For years Linux has provided me an OK solution with one crucial exception: PDF annotation. We've been stuck with Acrobat 5.0 for far too long!
