NWN just...not working

I installed NWN using CX8. I installed the patch using toby's advice. However, when I try to run it, it simply does not work. The menu opens and I press 'Play.' The black window with the NWN eye symbol pops up, then just disappears, and the NWN logo in the dock disappears as well. There is no error message.

Update - I closed Steam, since I thought NWN might work if it were the only thing CX was running. The same thing happens; the only difference is that the icon does not disappear from the dock.

CX8 cannot handle the movies. You can turn off the intro movies in the .ini file, but you will still have problems when you try to play the game (because there are opening and chapter movies that will cause CX8 to blank out and effectively hang).

That isn't the issue. I've disabled the intro movie already. It's not that it starts up and goes to a blank screen, or anything like that - it simply doesn't start up.

Ah, ok. I never had that problem - but even if you could get it to load, you'd never get past the movies in the campaign (which you can't turn off).

I am having similar problems using CX9.2. Installation goes fine, but NWN will not boot up aftwerward. I followed the instuctions from the How-to: NWN+SoU+HotU thread. In other words, install NWN, install SoU, install HotU, install patch (I used 1.69 instead of 1.68). Then I manually inserted the Disable Intro Movies and AllowWindowedMode lines into the nwn.ini file (although I'm not sure I got this right, there was no [Display Options] section, so I created my own or tried inserting into different lines of the nwn.ini file).

But, NWN still won't boot.

-MacDude

What exactly is the problem that NWN is displaying? Is the game simply not launching or is it displaying a blank screen on startup? It'd also help to know what your system specs are or what OS version you're running...

I am having the same problem. I have made no changes to my settings and am trying to run NWN Diamond downloaded from GOG on an XP bottle.

I'm on a mac pro, 2.4ghz core. 2gb ram running latest version of lion. I am using cross over games v10.1.1

The main menu opens, I choose play, the NWN eye appears and then the game shuts down - cross over stays open.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy

I'm experiencing the same exact thing. Since the Lion update, I can no longer play the Mac version of the game. I got all excited when I saw these "Gold" ratings, but sadly I can't get it working.

I've also tried Wineskin and get the same exact problem. Here's my log file if anyone who knows enough can shed some light:

XIO: fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":3273"

Hi,

...for the sake of clarity here, the poster above cites using CXG-10.1.1 ; you -should-
be using CXG-10.1.2 if you're running MacOS 10.7.x ....

...in that regard, you should be (now) running MacOS 10.7.2 (which has changed a couple
of things wrt crossover & other apps), and for sure, 'pointing the bone of blame' at MacOS
and without mentioning which video card/chipset you happen to have, isn't really useful...

...anyhow, the critical section of that debug log, is this bit...;

// Assertion failed: (XLIB_SEQUENCE_COMPARE(event_sequence, <=, dpy->request)), function poll_for_event, file xcb_io.c, line 221.
// wine: Assertion failed at address 0x000b:0x96a329c6 (thread 0034), starting debugger..

...and that, is fairly gakky ~ if I'm right, that's not NWN at fault .. it looks
more like the xserver code and OS display are arguing... hmmm ... I'll see if
I can get a Ninja to have a look at this thread to see if it's a known issue...

Cheers!

You're right - I totally neglected to mention my machine specs. I'm on a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. i7 processor and 330m graphics card. I have all the latest updates that you mentioned.

Thanks for passing this along! I'll keep an eye out here for developments.

I started to just push this to our team as a "newer Mac" causing problems... it wouldn't be unheard of. But then I remembered that there was something I wanted to ask.

Can you install and run anything else on that Mac? Like, does Wizard101 or another Supported Game work? I mention Wizard101 because it is free2play.

I just signed up for and installed Wizard 101 using the CrossTIE. Everything works great! I was able to log in straightaway.

Thanks and let me know if you need any other info.
