NWN 2

I am in the process of evaluating Crossover for games. So I am still learning my way around. I am running on OSX and have had some success getting some games to run. NWN2 seam to be failing no matter what path I take. Hopefully posting my results here will help fix the issues or give me something to try.

My setup:
OSX 10.5.2
Intel Core Duo 2.39 GHz
2 Gig Ram
NVidia 8500 1 GB Video Ram 1680x1050 32bit color
1 DVD Drive

This first attempt was just to stick the disk in and do the autorun.exe and go with the defaults. This is an NWN2 DVD install.
Went with default locations for NWN install.
I think it asked me to register and I said Later.
It installed much stuff then ask to Xfire. I said No.
Then it asked to restart computer. I go with the default yes. And cross over fakes reboot.
At this point the game is not in the crossover popup menu
It appears to have been installed in the windows 2000 bottle that was created for Guild Wars Nightfall.
At this point I can only assume I should drill down to THe right directory and run NWN2.exe. The following dialog appears:
No disc inserted.
Please insert the CD/DVD.
Pressing Retry does no good. And Cancel is my only option.
I reinsert the disc and manually start the autorun. I get the main menu. Pressing play from here gets me back to the disc dialog.

I must say that I was excited about Crossover Games. The first 2 games we tried worked. Warcraft III and GuildWars Nightfall.

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Chris Lopeman

  2. or try using a nocd crack

  3. in bottle configuration => control panel => winecfg => tab drives (play around with that). make sure the actual mountpoint of your disk is selected as the drive letter of the cd-drive of the bottle. if that does not work, note down the "label" and "disk serial/id" (or similar). copy cd/dvd content to [..]/drive_c/cd/ or similar. change cd-drive letter to that path, type "cd drive", and enter the disk serial + label. (that's how i made monkey island 4 work without cd and NOT using a nocd crack [i prefer not supporting that pieces of sw even when i have the original disks]).

I am not sure but i guess you'd better sepecify one dedicated bottle per game just to be sure...

P.S.:

CD/DVD recognition failure is very often a problem with wine/crossover. That's most likely caused by copy protection mechanims.
