Crossover 8, game is working but slow!

Ok, got some things working now. I managed to get in the game.

Install instructions:

  • Create xp bottle
  • Install the game via managed bottles install sofwtare
  • You need to install Microsoft Visual basic C++ 6.0 in the same bottle (via supported software)
  • Via wincfg --> set the library (in library tab) Quartz.dll to native to get through the eula (otherwise crash).
  • Note: To get the launcher started, you have to use: run command in the program menu and run the: "Navy field launcher"

Its very slow, and i have only sound effects, not music. To fix that you probably need to a replace winemp3.acm codec, and copy l3codecp.acm to /drive_c/windows/system32/winemp3.acm and the sound should work. Didn't test it yet. I also want to speed up the game, so i gonna dive into the register settings. So you will hear from me shortly again.

Note: To get the game faster it needs wine development, so dont bother asking how to get it faster. We need to wait this out for new winereleases.

Ok tried to manage to get the game faster, but:

  • Tried all Direct3D regkeys with their options, no use...
  • Tried some other programs Microsoft net frame 1.1, Java, no use.

I figured out that Microsoft Visual basic c++ 6 is enough to get the game work. So the other versions 2008 en 2005 is not necessary.

hi paul, can you post the details of which visual c++ dll files are required to get this running? i'm stuck with a fatal error when i try to run the program.

First tell me what you already have done, i will add what you should do further.

hey paul, i'm new to crossover and have only set quartz to native. i'd really appreciate any help!

kyle

Ok then you have to install the software Microsoft Visual basic C++ (installed all three 2005/2008/6.0.) in the bottle.
The run the launcher, you have to use: run command in the program menu and run the: "Navy field launcher" (browse to that executable).

2005 and 2008 appear listed as installed in the nf bottle. i'm having problems installing 6.0. when prompted to select an installation directory path nothing appears to happen. i've tried a few with no success. when starting the nf launcher i make it past the patch screen but then receive an alert from crossover that a critical error has occurred.

edit:

The command "/Users/USERNAME/Applications/CrossOver Games/NavyFIELD/NavyFIELD Launcher.app" returned 1.

StdOut:

StdErr:winewrapper.exe:error: cannot execute L"\"Y:\Applications\CrossOver Games\NavyFIELD\NavyFIELD Launcher.app\""

I'm getting the above error when i try to run the navy field launcher from run command. any help please?

The heck? i will sent ya an email to try to solve the problem.

Problem of Tonky is solved by the way.

Ow i edit the install instructions. This should made getting the game installed and running the game.

Clip: HOW TO in Tips and tricks!!!

Hello paul, Ive been working on Crossover following your video and looking and looking for about 3 hours now, and I cannot find out where the Microsoft Visual Basics C++ 6.0 file is. In your video you scroll to find it but my crossover games does not find it, it just lists the most basic game functions in the first page and nothing more. Is there a wine software pack or something i need to download to get it? Or do you own visual basics? I thought this could be run without buying visual basics.

Please get back to me soon. Thanks.

~Sam

Hi,

There is no "Microsoft Visual Basics C++ 6.0" ...that's an incorrect

citation (basic and c++ are two entirely different languages) -- the correct
name(s) for these service packs (as displayed in crossover) are;

Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

According to the wineHQ entry for this title, it's the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0
Redistributable you actually want....see;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10420

To get the 'quartz.dll' mentioned there, install the "Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Legacy"
package into the same bottle...

Hope this helps...

Cheers!

Don Is correct: Its the:
"Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable" package you need. But dont bother, its way too slow, and in the newest wine version it still is....so....we have to wait.

Hi!

Paul, i did everything you did both in ur written instructions and in your video, i followed it step by step

but its till shows up the message If you do not have NavyFIELD launcher please download it from www.navyfield.de

even if I do launch it from NavyField Launcher!

Any fixes?

Thanks
-Ace

Not Yet, i will make an support ticket for this one, because sincs 9.0 it doenst launch at all. I noticed that too.

Where can i go to download Crossover Games 8?

Ok i found the download of Crossover 8.0.0 but now i have another problem,

I went to install software to install Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable (or however its called)
and i could not find it in the list of software either.

This is the FULL list of software i can install through Crossover 8.0.0

CrossOver HTML engine
DCOM 98
DragonSky
Ether Saga Online
Guild Wars
Half-Life
Jade Dynasty
Perfect World
Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Steam from CD (e.g. The Orange Box)
Steam via download

Thats it, nothing else.

I tried to run NF without downloading 6.0 but it came up with a blank screen with the logo at
the bottom then it comes up with a warning that it has encountered a serious problem and needs to close/

Please help!

Thanks!

Yeah i got it to work and downloaded 6.0 and launch the game, and it goes all the way to the agreeing of the EULA
but i cant see my mouse, i click then it says the game has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.

so i have to click close and then it closes the game (big surprise). I have no idea on what to do.

Thanks for helping me get at least this far...

-Ace

You need to dll override the quartz.ddl (set to native windows) you do that by managed bottles --> control panel --> winecfg --> libraries --> search for quartz --> set it to native windows.
click ok, then run again the game, and you should go through the uela. Note you will only hear sound fx, no music.

Ok i was able to deploy my ship, but when i got to the training missioneverthing made copies of itself wherever they moved and the copies stayed there so now i cant see where i am going.

Thanks for actually getting me into the game!

-Ace

mmmm....dunno, i used manual gunning....and i didnt had that problem....but however how best we try, its unplayable slow, so you cant play a multiplayer game...

Yes i understand that, maybe i should take a pic of what im seeing?

-Ace

Ahh forget it, any other RTS's (Real Time Strategy) i can play for free that are WWII and work well?

Thanks!
-Ace

mmmm, there are a lot of games, browse through the compatibility database. Onescapee is very nice free game, the c4p file will install it for you and download. Not ww2 though, but loved the game, even though i am a hardcore ww2 player.

Hey, i just tried multiplayer and it worked perfectly fine! only problem is that cursor problem, it only happens when im NOT playing a historical mission.

Can i take a pic and show you what im talking about so that way you can see how to get it fixed.

If ur busy then dont worry ill try to find out on my own.

Just send me how you figured out to change the stuff in the library, maybe that will help.

Thanks so much!
-Ace

mmm...you could go to manged bottles --> winecfg --> graphic tab and then deslect the managed window (the 2 in the middel) apply, then try again. let me know.

Hey,

Well it did not work,

However, I have a video of my problem.

Here it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIHyt1g__ug

Hope this helps!
-Ace

wow.....i hadnt that!

what kinda videokaart you have? can you make screenhsots of your wincfg graphic tab? Make also screenshot of your register setting (run command --> select navyfield bottle --> regedit --> navigate to hkey local user --> sodtware --> wine --> (if there) Wine3D

3 things

1: reminder. this only happens on missions that ARENT historical

2: Answer. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics card

3: I will take the screenshots tomorrow.

Thanks!
-Ace

Hi,

Ok here is the video (what i use can only shoot video but i still have all of your questions answered)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnAheRs6Bc8

This shows the regedit and the Graphics tab.

Hope this helps!
-Ace

alright, i will download 8.1.4 aagain and i will see what i can do, it can take some days though for some result.

Hi,

I dont know if this helps any, but i downloaded Crossover Games 8.1.4 and i noticed it ran MUCH slower
than 8.0.0 But for me it had the same problem even on 8.1.4, It's just that 8.0.0 runs considerably faster.

Hope this helps!
-Ace
