Ok I took a lost shot with trying this link http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Myst:_Masterpiece_Edition, but even after to follow every instruction, it tsill freezes my Macbook.
Appears to work out of the box for me on Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 kernel, with cxgames 8.1.4
Win98 bottle.
Quicktime 4 was installed as part of the install process for the game, which seemed to work fine using default settings.
Attempting to run the game without the cd in the drive resulted in high cpu usage and a black screen, requiring a forced quit.
I didn't need any of the tweaks in the above wiki to get it to work.
Best results were using a virtual desktop environment, although one might want to change their base desktop resolution to a lower level to help accomodate for this. 640x480 is very small these days.
Sounds like the crashing issue is probably mac-specific possibly related to cd-rom drivers?
I've been able to get Myst: Masterpiece Addition to work on my Macbook running OSX 10.6.4 and Crossover 9.1. Here is what I did:
I haven't done much so there may be some bugs, but I was able to wander around Myst Island without any problems.

- Create Win98 Bottle
- Install Modern DirectX from the Crossover Installer
- Install Myst:ME from ISO of CD image
- When the Install is finished, deselect everything but the option
to install quicktime- After the install of quicktime is finished, run the quicktime
player and go to Quicktime Preferences- Disable DirectDraw in Video Settings
- Run Myst

Tried it out but quick time would screw up the screen could not go into preferences at all. This is with the CD version haven't tried with the gog version.

In addition to all the steps listed above, I had to set Wine preferences to open as a virtual desktop before it would work at all. I can now enter and play the program, but it freezes my MacBook if I try to restore a saved game.
