Myst IV Forum

I can get Myst IV to install and correctly populate CrossOver's "Program" menu. Myst's installed utilities all work correctly (they identify the WinXP environment and suggest the game is able to work - it does suggest the graphics driver may not be up to date.)
When the application is launched, the system crashes in the process of checking the DVD before launching the game. There is something not acknowledging the DVD being inserted into the drive, and the game halts unable to verify the disk is valid.

I think this is something in the copy protection or X11's interface to the DVD drive that is causing the application to mis-read the disk.

Okay I'm able to get it launched without crashing, I ran the 1.02 and 1.03 Myst IV patch files on the program and now it gets to the "Insert the Proper disk and restart" message where it fails beduase I can't get a disk to load as a "Windows Only" disk. I am now trying to see if I can make a DVD image of just the Windows side of "Disk 2" (The Myst IV disk is a Hybrid Windows/Mac disk - which is causing troubles.) My first attempt: dragging only the Windows files to a new DVD image works as far as intalling the program - but won't pass this check made when the game launches.

Buried somewhere in the Codeweavers forums there is a guide to mounting the windows section of a hybrid disk, so you don't have to do any copying. I don't know the url, but if you search for it you should be able to find it. I am living about 450 km away from my Myst IV right now, so I haven't tried installing it recently.
