MusicBee installation and issues

MusicBee installs and runs fine, except a few issues. I tested it (and using it as my audio player) on elementary OS. Here are the steps:

  1. Create a new bottle (Windows XP - don't use Win 7 bottle, it has additional issues);
  2. Install .NET Framework 4.0 from Runtime components (if it's not installed, the MusicBee setup will try to install it itself and it won't work);
  3. Install MusicBee.

Here are the issues I found so far:

  • there's a black horizontal bar on the bottom, I don't know what's supposed to be there, but I can't make it "go away";
  • not all the skins work! I tried only a few, and some worked, some didn't (like those in the Dark Metro section). If you choose a skin that doesn't work, after MusicBee restarts it will throw an error about not enough memory and crash. The only way to make it start again is to delete the <Theme> section from StartupSettings.ini (you can find the file in "yourmusicbeebottle\drive_c\Users\crossover\Application Data\MusicBee". Just delete that line, save the file and start MusicBee, it will have the default theme;
  • visualizers don't work (it's just a black screen).

So far the playback works, importing files works, tagging works, artwork searching and downloading works. I'll update this thread if I find other issues.

Thanks for this. I'm trying this on my Mac Pro (Apple). I tried crossover, and was able to install Musicbee (awesome!), BUT my music is contained on an external harddrive. When I went into Musicbee to add files, I couldn't see the external harddrive to add files, so that was frustrating. I'm new to Mac, and Crossover. This is the main reason I would buy Crossover, to replace the dreaded Itunes. Any idea how I can read music in Musicbee with Crossover? Do I need to somehow define or point to my external drive within Crossover so that Musicbee (and other Crossover running programs) can read the external?

Thanks for your feedback and help.

Best,

D.

Hello

You can access the files on your external drive if you know where to look. If you look in the Z: drive under the Volumes folder you should find each drive on your Mac.

Ok, I will try that. I thought I did look and it looked empty. Maybe I should have disengaged and reengaged the drive to have it recognize... I will try this again. Thanks for the suggestion/help. Best, D

I need help for one thing (see below), but I want to say - WOW!!! Ok, this is awesome. I found the drive, as you suggested and bam! I've got this awesome music player working finally. I use it in windows all the time, so this is so great!!!!

So, this is totally going to make me buy the crossover software, this is so worth it.

THE PROBLEM #1: I can't for the life of me figure out how to delete a track from Musicbee, when looking at the library. I highlight a track or tracks, push delete on my Macbook Pro, and nothing. I can't drag it to the trash either. So is there a way to remove a track once I've added it? I know you don't officially support Musicbee software, but it seems a fairly simple thing. I can't even use the "file" commands in Musicbee to remove the file. Any suggestions? In Windows, I just highlight the track and delete - voila.

THE PROBLEM #2: The other problem, one that might not be easily addressed, is file conversion within Musicbee. I can't access the settings for transcoding/conversion without the application crashing, and when I do try to transcode/convert a file (say from flac to mp3) it just won't work. Tells me I have to download lame, but converting to wma won't work either.

Thanks again for this program and support!

Best, D
