Switch back to 2d?

I see there are two recent ratings showing that Motorsport Manager works well, my experience is that it hangs on the loading page. The first time I started the game it prompted me with a choice to run in 2d or 3d, and I selected 3d. I wonder if the others with more positive reports chose the 2d option. I can't figure out how to change the choice though:

  1. The loading screen hangs the game before I can get to any settings screens, so I can't switch to 2d using in-game settings.
  2. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not cause the game to re-prompt the 2d vs 3d setting, it just proceeds to hang at the loading screen.
  3. Deleting the "Playsport Games" folder in the bottle at "Users/Crossover/AppData/LocalLow" doesn't cause the game to re-prompt the 2d vs 3d setting either, even if you disable steam cloud saves in Steam before deleting it.

I'm out of ideas for where the game stores state to force a re-prompt... and I have other games in this bottle so I don't really want to delete the whole bottle to try again from scratch. If you try this game, I recommend using the 2d option and if you have any ideas about how to clear the 2d/3d selection state pipe up and I'll try it.

Hi Mike,

It's possible that the setting is saved in a file in your local Documents folder.

You're suggesting to look for Motorsport Manager files in ~/Documents/ within MacOS (or a subdirectory thereof)? I do see a My Games folder there and some of the games I'm playing do have data there. Nothing for Motorsport Manager though. Also nothing in Username > Library > Application Support > Playsport Games as https://www.reddit.com/r/MotorsportManagerPC/comments/5cfn6h/where_do_i_find_the_save_game_file/ the Mac native version uses. There IS a folder in the bottle in Users/Crossover/AppData/LocalLow with game files in it... just deleting it doesn't wipe the graphics settings.

On a lark I thought I try to check the registry using the instructions at https://support.codeweavers.com/editing-bottle-registry-keys. It turns out there is a set of keys at HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Playsport Games. I can't google up any docs on how they work, and their names/values are not particularly intuitive. But there do look to be some settings related to graphics.

I deleted the whole folder of keys in the Registry, reinstalled Motorsport Manager, and fired it up. With the registry keys gone and my game files deleted, the game DOES present the 2D/3D settings option again, and selecting the 2D option gets me onto the next menu which I never previously reached. When I get a chance I'll give the game a proper go in 2D mode, writing up a tip for this trick and updating my rating if it all works out.

Submitted the tip but it's not possible to update the rating. It already mentions 3D as the likely culprit in the rating, so hopefully between this thread and the tip folks will see that it can work well with Crossover 24.05 provided you pick the right graphics settings.

Hi Mike,

Glad you found a solution, and thanks so much for sharing it in a tip!

Oh, nice. Didn't see that. Rating updated, folks should have an easier time firing this game up now.
