Steam version bad frame rate

Hi, I just installed the Steam version of this game in CrossOver Games 10.0.1 and while it launches and technically runs, it has a terrible frame rate and I can't seem to customise any video settings apart from the Brightness slider; the graphics quality settings are all greyed out to me. Additionally, the game hung during the tutorial.

Does anyone have similar experiences or solutions for these problems?

Thanks.

There are only two "real" options; there's bad FPS for most computers running UE3 games.

  1. Upgrade your computer.
  2. Use Cedega. (Linux only, I will not mention the Mac alternative in accordance with the DMCA.)

Hmm, no suggestion to enable editing of video settings? I don't know why they're locked. Thanks though.

I have the steam version. I've never been able to get ME to work terribly well (see my forum posts) on linux. What system are you using?

I am using both Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Ubuntu 10 or something, both with NVIDEA 9400M, 2.44 GHZ Intel 2 Core Duo or something. It's playable, but it runs much better in Cedega, sorry to say.

Ah, that's a shame. I'm using Mac OS 10.6.6 and it looks like it's effectively unplayable here too. I can't for the life of me figure out why the resolution and graphics settings aren't accessible. Guess I'll have to try something else. Thanks anyway!

Funny the game seems to play better on OS X than on Linux, try using the earlier releases of cxg.
Alternately make sure you don't have Nvidia Physix installed as that may do some strange stuff.

I'm still flummoxed by the inability to change the video settings. I have no problem doing that on ME on Ubuntu w cxg 10.
What video card does your computer use? If you have a macbook like I do, it's likely too slow to really run ME.
My desktop w 4GB of memory runs it just OK on windows with low and medium settings.

I'm on a pre-unibody (2008?) MBP with a GeForce 8600M GT graphics card...I'm not awfully savvy about these things but I was hoping to have the game playable on medium to low settings; it really is the locked settings that is bothering me. Downloading CrossOver Games 9.2.0 to check if it makes a difference, thanks for the suggestion!

Okay well I've managed to lower the graphics settings so it runs well enough, but the mouselook problem exists and although it's been mentioned that "MouseWarpOverride=force" in the registry will fix that, I don't know where or how to make that change. Can someone walk me through it please? I got as far as opening the registry and navigating to the Wine directory...
