The fact that minecraft has a C4 entry makes my head ache. This is a java game and it can be run on any of the major platforms: Windows, OS X (unix) and Linux.
For Ubuntu users:
Install Oracle Java 7 in Ubuntu via PPA Repository
then
java -jar minecraft.jar
I was unaware that Minecraft could run natively on Linux as well.
OK, we COULD run Minecraft .jar directly on Linux.
But, anyone with serious concerns about security should disable Java, because after Oracle, it seems that there are so many security flaws. For instance, the 0-day threat was solved after months, but it took hackers 9 hours to circumvent it...
So, no, I won't run java directly on my all-secure Linux machine, even OpenJDK may have security flaws inheritted from Oracle's Java. And yes, you may call me paranoid. Paranoid, but as safe as can be.
I'm not so sure a Crossover bottle could do enough to protect it... But it is better than nothing, so yes, I wish I could run Minecraft for my son as good as I could in Windows, but he is complaining there are bugs, some elements are invisible in creative mode.
Anyone can give any help?
Thanks in advance.
The disable "Java" is aimed at the plugins for IE/Chrome/Firefox etc. That's what the vulnerabilities were about. If you have java installed and use applications that require it, you're quite safe.
