MS Office Word Viewer 2003 Issue

I installed MS Office Word Viewer 2003. When I opened a Word file, it gave me this message: "You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting."

I think that Word file was created in version MS Office 2002 and Crossover does not have Word Viewer 2002.

How do I unblock the "registry policy setting" to be able to open this file type?

Please advise. Thank you.

I'm looking at this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810

It has some reg files there that could be imported with wine's regedit. They also have details on how to create those keys manually.

Here's more info on Wine's/CrossOver's registry editor:

Thanks for the helpful articles. Still need more help...

I downloaded their .reg file
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/8/B/28B644CE-9A30-4D99-AFEF-830A4FB5B839/UnblockWord.reg

Imported. But now when I open my Word file in MS Viewer, it says I have to open with the "Text Recovery Converter." Does Crossover has that software? If not, how do I install it?

Please advise. Thank you

I believe that is a feature only MS Office has, and in this particular case, MS Word. Are you sure that the file you're trying to open is not corrupt?

Probably. I'll check to make sure.

BTW, I downloaded the latest version of Paltalk. Installed in "Other Application" successfully. However, when I run it, I got a error message, "Modify your firewall settings to allow Paltalk connection."

How do I modify my firewall settings in Crossover?

Please advise. Thanks.

I don't know about Paltalk. I've installed it on my linux box, it seems to run but it's rather unstable. Maybe adding Internet Explorer 7 to the same bottle will help?

Thanks. I'll ask the forum see if anyone knows about Paltalk.
