Instability with Crossover 5.0(.1)

I have noticed a serious drop in the stability of Word from Crossover 4.2 to Crossover 5.0(.1). Word crashes consistently when opening documents (have submitted a ticket on this). At other times it seems to just up and die after running for 1/2 an hour or so.

Have other people seen a reduction in the stability of Word with the new versions of Crossover? Any advice on how to trouble shoot when word hangs (the random crashes are really nasty, they try to allocate all the memory on my system before crashing...)?

Stephen

Hi Stephen:

  1. Do you still have the problems you mentioned?

  2. I haven't observed any of the systematic crashes you are quoting, although sometimes it does.

  3. Do you have a document that causes the crash? If you send me (aniello.mennella @ fisica.unimi.it) (PS remove spaces before and after @) I can try with my version (5.0.3)

Any advice on how to trouble shoot when word hangs (the random crashes are really nasty, they try to allocate all the memory
on my system before crashing...)?

  1. Launch winword from command line (e.g /opt/cxoffice/bin/winword) in a terminal. In this case you should see messages when Word crashes. This might give a clue on what it is happening.

Hi, Searched and found this thread.

I'm also experiencing the same problem with my installation.
Is there a fix to this?
I'm using a laptop that is connected to an external display.
It seems that the application is trying do something with the display because it flickers once and gdm comes up. The xsession that I was on died.

Hope there is a fix out for this already.
