Cannot install?

This is one I can repeat over and over using CX Games Linux 10.0.0. I cannot get vcrun2005 SP1 to install.

What I've tested:

First try:

  • Create a new bottle using 10.0.0 (Win2k for World of Warcraft for example)
  • Start installation from .tie file (for WoW)
  • Click Yes when vcrun2005 is installing
    Installation fails at this point and I get an option to try again, ignore or cancel the install. Checking the cxgames directory for this bottle after the failed install, and I do not see any evidence of vcrun2005 being installed.

Second try:

  • Manually create an empty bottle
  • Use the CX installer to tag and install vcrun2005
  • Fails exactly the same way as the first try

Third try

  • Manually create an empty bottle
  • Install vcrun2005 from downloaded installer
  • Fails

Fourth try:

  • Roll back to CXGames 9
  • Create an empty bottle
  • Use the CX installer to install vcrun2005
    This works perfectly - no errors, and the install exits cleanly.

OS: openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.6.0, kernel 2.6.37 64 bit, nVidia 260.19.29

Is this something for a bug report? What extra debug info can I convince CXGames to give me?

Ummm....delete the vcrun2005 installer stored in the downloaded installers directory, just to remove any possibility that it may look like it's using one thing when it's actually using another (that would be a cxinstaller bug if it exists) -- I've just rattled the above check cases off half a dozen time on both the iMac and the linux boxes, and I can't seem to recreate what you're seeing - I don't doubt you at the same time of course...<grin>...happens to me all the time...

...this linux rig has the same nvidia drivers...it's at linux-2.6.34 clean :: I'd have to say it's working here though. I seem to recall an env_var that useful here....hmm....maybe that was CX9...umm
...to find out more about what's going wrong, create a new winxp bottle called New and then see if you can recreate the issue with commandline...

[if installed in $home]

~/cxgames/bin/wine --bottle New --verbose /path/to/vcrun2005.exe --cx-log ~/vcrun.log

[if installed in /opt]

/opt/cxgames/bin/wine --bottle New --verbose /path/to/vcrun2005.exe --cx-log ~/vcrun.log

If it manifests itself when you try to install like that, the resultant logfile (vcrun.log) should contain some clue as to what's actually flying apart...let me know ho wyou get on...

I didn't even think to clear out the Installers directory - I think what threw me is that it worked OK when I rolled back to CXG9, and failed with CXG10 (using an installer I downloaded myself as well as the one provided by CX). Since it appeared to be version dependent I started looking in the wrong places 😋

Anyway, cleaning out the Installers directory and launching the tie file again seemed to clear it all up and the install worked as expected. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!!

Glad to help..if ever a component installer fails, repeatedly, that's usually the best place to start - saves one whole heap of time ;) The cxinstaller handling I still question a bit given your description, it sort of suggests there's a bit of undefined behavior there...thanks for mentioning it ;)
