Insert Video From File Fails...

It seems that anything MCI related fails with Powerpoint 2003 (and I would assume the rest of office 2003 as well, but have not confirmed). Is this a well known issue? I have scoured the app database and have not seen any mention of this, nor any workarounds, so I am not sure if this is my own isolated issue.

I'm using CX 6.0.1 Standard. Created a win2000 bottle and installed MS Office 2003 flawlessly. Everything works as expected, however I cannot insert any video clips into a PPT deck. Any attempt (for any type of video clip, mpg, wmv, avi, mov, etc) fails with this popup:

"Powerpoint cannot insert a movie from the selected file. Verify that the path and file format are correct, and then try again."

I also should point out that opening a pre-existing PPT which contains a slide with an embedded video results in the slide displaying the first frame of the video as a PICT.

I tried copying over mciavi32.dll, mciqtz32.dll and mciwave.dll to my bottle's windows/system32. Ran regedit to confirm that the registry entries in localmachine/software/ms/windows/nt/currentversion/MCI32 and MCIExtensions are correct. I get the same popup though.

Anyone else have this trouble? Is there a fix for this?

Robert, has there been any progress on your problem since April 2007? I have the same problem with PPT 2003 and, previously, with PPT 2000. It's essential for me to be able to imbed and play various video formats, so this is a big problem for me. Thanks.
Gil

I haven't tried 7.1 yet, but this is a big problem for me too. Fortunately, OO.org is finally starting to support limited video...
