Outlook 2010 can't connect to Exchange 2010 Server, IMAP also Crashes

When I try to connect to an Exchange Server in Outlook 2010's setup it always crashes with the module of ntdll. When I connect to IMAP it will connect, send and receive test messages, but within minutes it will crash again as well.

What I did was install this using the Office 2007 setting using the Office 2010 installer, but in addition installed Internet Explorer 8.

Any ideas of how to fix this or what might be causing it?

I just installed the Office 2010 trial in Crossover 11 using the "Tie" and I'm having the same problem you are. I can put in the Exchange server name, and my username, and then either pressing on "Check Name" or just proceeding to the next screen crashes Outlook every time. That's most unfortunate. Means I'll still be using Outlook 2003 for now.

Here is a pastebin link to the backtrace.txt that generated when Outlook 2010 crashed. http://pastebin.com/ApFUiByC

A few thoughts...

First, have you filed a Support Ticket for this issue? If not, we are tracking this issue on bug number 9289. I highly recommend filing a Support Ticket or sending an email to info@codeweavers.com and mentioning that bug number (if you have not already filed a ticket).

Second, have you configured your email account for rpc over http. This is a very commonly missed setting on some setups and will help in some situations (although potentially not the cause of this issue).

  1. Go to "Manage Bottles" and select the bottle Office 2007 is installed in

    • Mac Configure->Manage Bottles (from the drop down menu at the top
    • Linux in terminal: /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxsetup or ~/cxoffice/bin/cxsetup
  2. Click on the control panel tab and launch "Mail"

  3. Click "Email Accounts"

  4. Choose your "Microsoft Exchange Server" and click "Repair"

  5. Check "Manually configure server settings..." and then click "Next"

  6. Click "More Settings..."

  7. Choose the 'Connection' tab & check "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" then click "Exchange Proxy Settings"

  8. Under "Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange:" verify that the correct address is there (and if not, put it there).

  9. OK, Apply, OK, Next, Finish

  10. Retry the connection.

Third, I think some of the tips for Outlook 2007 may help you. I would suggest the following tips from the Outlook 2007 Tips & Tricks section:

Connection Issues
Can't log into an Exchange Account on Linux

I filed a support ticket right after this forum post, so I didn't know the bug. Further, the problem I'm having is with Office 2010, not Office 2007. That being said, as I mentioned in the ticket, I have used the control panel -> Mail to try to configure the Exchange settings, and I can get to the point where I enter in the Exchange server and account name, and it crashes there, too. I cannot configure anything under More Setting, because it crashes there, as well.

Here's a Youtube link showing three crash scenarios from the Mail control panel - More Settings, Check Name, and Next.

Codeweavers are now aware of the issue and say that they'll try to have a fix by the next Crossover 11 update.

Any update on this, I see the same results in 11.0.1. I assume that means the fix didn't make this release?

We're still working on this issue. If you're having this issue please let us know if 1) You're using Office 2010 with SP1 installed 2) If you're using a network proxy (authenticated or not).

Thanks!

I am experiencing the same issue
my office version is
office 2010 14.0.6023.1000 (that what it shows in word).

I've tried to setup outlook with exchange via LAN and RPC over http both make outlook crash after i click the "check name" button.

I will be happy to provide additional info.

Same issue here. Installed 11.0.3 on Ubuntu 11.10.
Created a new bottle and nstalled 32-bit Office 2010 suite.

Everytime Outlook is launched and establishes communication with the server, it crashes and keeps crashing everytime it is restarted.

Microsoft Office 2010 Enterprise x32 with sp1 embedded (in Updates folder)

Hello, I also can't connect to our exchange server using Outlook. We can install and use MS Office 2010 without sp1 and Outlook will connect to our Exchange server without issue. However we need sp1 because it includes the ability to use a new registry key that changes the way Outlook does archiving (kb:2553550 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2553550). This is crucial because our exchange team has strict quotas on the mailboxes (6 months or 1G) but does not do the archiving at the server. Without sp1 Outlook archives based on the last modified date and not the received date. Basically if I even look at a 5 month old e-mail Outlook won't archive it till (assume 5 month archive rule) 5 months after I last looked at it but the exchange server will purge it when it's 6 months old regardless. This is a big deal for UCF (University of Central Florida) as Outlook is our only allowed e-mail client (IMAP has been disabled). Finally I tried installing the hotfix specific to the issue I'm having but this breaks Outlook (it won't even open).

In addition I can't authenticate the license over the internet either. I open Word for the first time and it asked to authenticate the product (this works perfectly if I install the non sp1 version of Office), I click next and it says "Connecting..." but then errors with "An unspecified error has occurred. Your request cannot be processed at this time. Bla Bla Bla"

Thanks you

Any timeline on these fixes?

Update...

I can Activate Office if I follow the Tip in the "Tips & Tricks" tab of the "What Runs?" Microsoft Outlook 2010 page.

I am able to connect Outlook to Exchange without it crashing if I start outlook in Safe Mode (and setup my account). I restarted once in safe mode and then again in regular mode and connected to my Exchange server without crashing. But... some of my outlook folders, specifically the Inbox and sent items folder are generating an error "Outlook cannot display this view" and so I can't see my mail. I can click on my "deleted Items" folder and see everything. I can also click on all of my Search Folders and create new ones (like Unread mail and see some items from my Inbox).

I'll post as I experiment.

Outlook 2010 with sp1 fixed views error...

All the default views in Outlook are broken because of the reminder field. Removing the reminder field from all the fields and so far everything works as expected.

So to sum up.

Outlook 2010 with sp1 cannot setup an Exchange connection unless it's in safe mode. After the initial setup Outlook can be started in normal mode. The broken views can be fixed by removing the "Reminder field".

Codeweavers, any ETA on a fix for this?

The best thing you can do when you are experiencing issues with Outlook 2010 is to write in with a Support Ticket. The forums are not meant to be a "Support Forum" (as stated in "The Fine Print" for creating a forum post. We prefer to have any issues tracked in our Ticket System so that we can properly communicate issues with our developers. If you are having issues with Outlook 2010, please submit a Support Ticket or send an email to ninjas@codeweavers.com.

Funny enough the crossover-diablo-unsupported for linux fixed my issue with outlook 2010 and I was able to configure and connect to my exchange server so far everything is working great except search since it requires advanced search to be installed.
