Outlook 2003 stalling when writing messages

Outlook 2003 seems to be running fine, except that I often get stalls when writing a message. I'll be in mid-sentence, when the cursor just freezes. It won't respond to any input for several seconds (about 30 seconds or so, I usually switch to another application for a while). Once it finally comes back, anything I had typed during the freeze appears, and I can submit my message as normal.

It happens almost every time I start a new message. If I can't type and send the message within a few seconds, I get hit by the freeze.

Has anybody else seen this behavior, and know of a fix?

I'm using Crossover 7.1.0 on Mac OS X 10.5.6.

Actually, this is a known issue, even in native Windows machines.

All you need to do is remove Word as your editor. This should help with the speed for typing considerably.

Cheers!

Any other workarounds? I've configured Outlook to use only text mode and turn
off all autocorrect options. I continue to get freezes after typing every
few words, regardless if they are spelled correctly or incorrectly.

I am also using Crossover 7.1.0 on OSX 10.5.6, with office 2003 package in
a win2000 bottle.

After typing out the previous message, I realized I should have tried other
bottle formats. Switched to winxp bottle and Outlook is no longer having
stalls or freezes when winword is not the editor. With winword, it's not
stalling, but it's pretty sluggish.

I am having the EXACT same problem as John above. I am using a Windows XP bottle, I have downloaded Office SP3, I have changed Outlook to not use Word as it's editor. I have run tests, and it always freezes on the 27th word... I haven't purchased it yet for this reason. I am using the same configuration as John above. I have 4 gb memory. Another note, I have set up Outlook to use an exchange server.

You can try this:

  • From CrossOver's Configure menu, select Manage Bottles
  • Select the bottle in which you've installed Outlook
  • Select the Control Panel tab
  • Launch the winecfg control panel
  • Select the Libraries tab of winecfg
  • In the "New override for library" field, type: wineosxime
  • Click Add
  • Click Edit
  • Select Disable
  • OK out of the Edit Override dialog and OK out of winecfg

I have tried all of the suggestions noted here. Word is not my editor. I have tried plain text, HTML, and rich text. I have also manually installed into a Windows XP bottle and tried it with no luck. The service pack 3 is installed. Any other sugestions? Do we know if it works without Service Pack 3?

Thanks

It does work without Service Pack 3.

Have you installed IE6 into the same bottle (not for use of course, but for the libraries it supplies)?

I'm evaluating Crossover before buying and trying to get to the bottom of the Gmail/Imap issue. I've been reading through the forums for hours and cannot seem to find a definitive answer to the Gmail question. I have the below listed configuration but cannot seem to get Gmail to work. Does Crossover/outlook 2003 on a mac work with Gmail, either pop or imap?

  • Intel Mac
  • OSX 10.5.8
  • Crossover 8.0.1
  • win2000 bottle: Office 2003 (no service packs (yet), IE6 (SP1) [installed Office first]
  • editor is not word
  • Outlook and Gmail are configured correctly for pop or imap

Current situation (with imap config) are the following error messages on send/receive:
Outgoing server does not support SSL
Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from IMAP e-mail server for account Gmail. Error: Unable to connect to the server.
Outlook is unable to download folder Inbox from the IMAP e-mail server for account Gmail.

Thank you, crossover appears to be a great piece of software that I will buy in a heartbeat if I can get gmail to work.

Aye, that seems to be the problem... if we could just get this one little thing to work...

Gmail doesn't work with Outlook and CrossOver in any support fashion.

There are some workarounds available on the Outlook 2003 & 2007 sections... they should detail setting up a stunnel. We are working a supported way, but it keeps getting pushed back. Our apologies!

Hi,

if you install word first, this seems to do the trick! then choose word as your editor.

Reegards,

Chris
