Running LinuxMint 20.3 xfce. Downloaded trial version of Crossover 21.2.0 and installed using the gdebi installer.
Followed the suggestion of support and altered the useragent value in Firefox to login to my MS account and get the 32bit .exe file for Microsoft Office 365.
Went through the default process to install this app which created a Win 7 bottle type. (This was a surprise, why not Win 10?)
It appeared that Office installed fine with no errors. I clicked on Excel as my first startup. It prompted me to enter my Microsoft login, which was accepted. Next window, I accepted the license agreement. Then I got the Activation Wizard popup window that asks “How do you want to activate your software?” I selected “I want to activate over the internet”. It replies ”We are sorry something went wrong... Try again later.”
I ‘x’ out of this popup and I am presented with an Excel workbook that indicates I am logged in to Microsoft. This was confusing. So I logged into my MS account via a browser, and I can see that MS does recognize that I have Office installed on my linux laptop.
I tried to open an Excel 365 workbook that I copied over from my Win 10 laptop. The workbook opens, spreadsheets and data are loaded, but all the macros and vba code are wiped out. In fact, when I open Visual Basic from the Developers menu, everything is grayed out. There is no VBAProject (Book 1) entry. There is no ability to add Tools > References as all menu items are grayed out also.
Any suggestion on how to get VBA working in Excel?
Thanks.
