How I installed Office 365 on Ubuntu using Crossover

This one was a bit tricky so I figured I should share my experience. After contacting Microsoft support, I was given a direct link to a 5gb .img file which I then mounted. Running the installation from the mounted drive location started to work but then i got an all black dialog before crossover informs me of an error and the process fails. Next, I tried using a Windows installation to log into the Microsoft website and download the installer which I then transferred over to my Ubuntu installation. I had the same problem when attempting to install it in this fashion. In both cases, on the "Select Application" tab I was choosing "Unlisted Application." I made one more attempt at installing from the official installer (not the .img file) but this time I selected "Microsoft Office 2016" from the "Select Application" tab before running the installer. Doing this caused Crossover to download several fonts and other dependencies prior to launching the installer and this time it worked! Instead of a black dialog box I was greeted with the splash screen/installation progress bar. Towards the end of the installation, wine did produce an error however I clicked OK and the installation finished soon thereafter. So far it looks like everything is working pretty well and I have not encountered any other errors as of yet. I hope this is helpful for others who are hoping to install Office 365 in a Linux environment. Good Luck!

Hello,

Crossover has a dedicated Crosstie for Office 365. Make sure that you choose Microsoft Office 365 from the application list. It works great in this way.

Regards

Office 365 seems to be missing from the selection?

Cannot find it, either.

Office 365 only has 2 stars on Mac because it is almost non-functional there currently. If you are running CrossOver on Mac, you will only be able to see the application if you check the box to "Show entries for untested and known-not-to-work software under Preferences -> Installer Assistant. By default, CrossOver does not display programs that only have a rating of 1 or 2 stars. I hope this solves the mystery :)

How can I activate Office 365 with my school account? Fresh install hangs on Login button (in school login page), installing IE8 causes blank page and cannot login. Any help?
