Design Mode in MS Word doesn't work

This is something which I can live without, as it's just slightly more annoying to deal with content controls. But I might as well see if anyone here has been able to get this feature working in MS Word.

When I click on 'Design Mode' under 'Developers Options' it "activates" (it doesn't, but Word seems to think so), but the moment I click on a page, it deactivates. Any fixes for this?
