Office 365 now Requires Windows 10 Bottle to be able to run installer

Trying to install Office 365 on a Windows 7 bottle, fails. It requires a Windows 10 one, otherwise it quits.

Now the installation runs, but at the end it fails and now I have no access to MS Applications unles I use "Execute command".

Running applications works, but it fails to install the license after I login using my account.

Running an application, shows up a window requesting Key, pressing "Back" it detects I'm logged in then press on "Continue" the application runs.

I found lot of fliking on the application and the MS PowerPoint, just doesn't show the presentation on full scree, it crash.

CodeWeavers support, has confirmed that latest Office 365 now offers Microsoft Office 2019, which in turn is unsupported. Try to get an MsOffice 2016 installation media instead.

Hello,

Tested today and it works. Installed Office 365 32bits on Windows 7 bottle. It installed 1902 version. I am impressed how it works.

Excellent Job

CrossOver 18.5

Interestingly, it does work today (install). I've had lots of issues getting this working over the past couple of months. Will continue testing it to see how well things run.

And it won't activate online. Same issue signing in with Office 2016. Hmm...

after many months of trying I have finally got O365 installed in a Win7 bottle (using crossover 19) however I get a Win7 end of life warning. I'm hoping we will be able to get it installed in a Win10 bottle soon as I also couldn't get it to work, although initially it did get further than the with the Win7 bottle. May have to fire up a VM and get testing, does anyone know what (if any) extra / alternate libraries it may need for Win10?

It would be great if you could share the procedure you followed to install O365 on a win7 bottle. I tried several times but never got past 58%.
Indeed some months ago I successfully installed O365 on my notebook with Ubuntu 18.04 (the same I run on my desktop, where I'm trying now to install O365). The only difference is the graphics card. The notebook has an intel, the desktop has an nvidia card with proprietary drivers.
I also tried to export the working bottle from my notebook and "restore" it, but it did not work.
thank you for your time

The laptop I'm installing it on is a Dell XPS 15, Ubuntu 19.10, Linux 5.3.0-46-generic, GNOME 3.34.3, GPu1 Intel UHD Graphics 630 , GPU2 NVIDIA NVIDIA Corporation Device 1f91 (on demand) CPU Intel i7-9750H (12) @ 4.500GHz . I downloaded the latest office installer from office.com, I used the Install Windows Software button and made sure I updated the recipe and let it install all the dependencies it needed. I first load outlook and add the email address attached to my O365 subscription, after that everything seems to work just fine, well, outlook is flaky as hell and will only work with exchange mailboxes, Word and Excel are fine, not used Access but it does load, publisher is a bit unstable so it can be frustrating to use, OneDrive doesn't work which kind of limits some of the core functions of O365. It would be great if all of O365 worked rather than just the basics of word and excel, even those two are prone to crashing. Overall, considering this is a paid for emulation layer it's disappointing performance for one of the headline reasons for using crossover, I think it's time for a bit more effort to be put into stability of crossover.

It would be very useful if a Code Weaver representative could publish definitive instructions for installing Office 365.

I have tried downloading the 32 and 64 bit image files from MS and extracting the setup files. I've tried installing both in the default Win 7 which fails, for both 32 and 64 bit. 32 bit does produce an error: an newer version of Windows is required. So why auto select a 32 bit Win 7 bottle and even warn that all other Windows versions are incompatible.
Anyway, the pain doesn't stop there. Having got the installation going, a black Splash Screen is presented, it may have options to be selected, but we'll never know. Then viewing the Wine Sys Tray we get as far as 58% waits for maybe 10 minutes (on in i7) before failing, or completing but failing to run word - with an application error offering to repair Word (which doesn't fix anything). Can't remember which combination of Office 365 and Bottle produces which outcome thought as it's all pretty much guess work without instructions.

Suffice to say nothing I have tried has worked. How running Office 365 got a 4 star rating is very suspicious.

OK, I just installed Office 365 on Crossover Linux on Elementary OS (Ubuntu 18.04). Here's what I did (not what failed, which was A LOT):

Went to office.com on my Linux box using Firefox. I used User Agent Switcher add-on to look like Firefox on Windows 10.

I went to my account in the top right.

Clicked on "Install"

It came up and offered a default install. I clicked on the bottom link (can't remember what it said, maybe "other" or "options"?)

I selected 32-bit

The rest of the install went smooth.

I was able to sign-in on Excel but then when I opened it again it wouldn't.

So I went to the bottle and simulated a reboot.

Then I closed Crossover and opened it again.

Now Excel and Word show logged in and work seemingly just like on Windows 😉

Those are the only two I use primarily so I don't know about the others.

HTH!

Fred

Hello

I just tried to install Microsoft Office 365 on Crossover 20.0.4. I also successfully downloaded the Office 365 image file and mounted it on Linux.

When I tried to install it in a Windows 7 bottle an error message appears. Apparently Windows 7 is no longer supported. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/windows-7-end-of-support-and-office-78f20fab-b57b-44d7-8368-06a8493f3cb9?ui=en-US&rs=en-GB&ad=GB

I also tried to install it in a Windows 10 bottle but so far failed. Does anyone has any experience?

Regards
Michael

Hi Michael,

There is currently no workaround for this issue: Office 365 does not install into a win10 bottle currently, and since the offline installers require Windows 10, they will not work. You will have to use an online installer with CrossOver right now.

We are aware that Windows 7 support will be ending for all installers by January 2023, and we plan to be able to support Windows 10 for Office 365 in advance of that. We are currently working on a solution, but it will require quite a bit of development effort.

Best,
Meredith

Meridith: "You will have to use an online installer with CrossOver right now."

Ummm, how does one do that?

Hi Dennis,

That should be the default option for downloading a 365 installer from office.com: if your installer has .exe as an extension, it's an online installer. The issues reported are with opting into downloading the offline installer (with .img as an extension).

Best,
Meredith

Thanks. As you noted, I downloaded the default .exe 32-bit installer instead of the offline installer, and was able to install successfully.
