Microsoft Office 2003 Forum

On my desktop computer (P4 3,2GHz with hyperthreading, debian etch) I have the problem that when I try to install MS Office 2003 under CrossOver Office 5.0.1 the installer crashes after displaying the box saying that the installation is being prepared (i.e. after entering the product key and user name).
I have tried all suggestions from this forum (i.e. install libc6-i686 and creating a clean bottle for office) in any concievable combination, but nothing helps.
On the other hand, when I tried to install it on my laptop (P4m 1,7GHz, debian etch) it worked immediatly. I therefore wonder whether it is possible that CrossOver or the MS Office installer have a problem with hyperthreading as that is the only relevant difference I can see.

Just a suggestion but have you tried disabling hyperthreading in the computer's BIOS? Usually its menu option is "HT", or something like that. This will let you find out if hyperthreading is causing the problem.

I'm not a programmer or Wine/CX developer, but I think it's unlikely that a hyperthreading processor or kernel will cause problems. They're extremely common nowadays.
