Money 98: Installs but does not run.

I've tested Money98 on the following "Bottles": 98, XP, and Vista. In all three cases Money98 will install but it will fail to launch. Upon launch of the software, you will see the Money icon for a two second period then it will disappear.

To bad as this is by far the best Money version that Microsoft made due to the fact it has a "day-by-day" forecast as apposed to the new average forecast in the newer software.

Would be good to get this running in Crossover for Mac.

Please vote this up.

Have you tried creating a win98 bottle, the installing DCOM98 and IE6 into the bottle first before installing Money98. Doing so will configure the bottle for things missing in our Windows implementation. It might Money 98 running for you.

I've tried this method but to no ends. I've downloaded all complete versions internet explorer from version 4 upto and including 6.0. I had 8 different bottles (98 & xp) with all these IE versions installed it it was still a no go.

Is there a way to have a bottle WITHOUT any IE dependancies installed? Reason being is that Money98 only needs IE v3.02 installed for it to work properly, but it won't install it because the program states that IE v4 is already on the system.

I even tried to run "ieradictor" (makers of litepc) to remove all traces of IE... but it didn't work.

Is there any way for me to create a win98 bottle without any references of it having IE installed on it so I could test this method out??

Thanks!

Hmm, that's an interesting question. There are two things I can think of to try:

1) Create a win98 bottle. Use the Run Command dialog to run the command "iexplorer -unregserver" (without the quotes) in that bottle.

2) Create a win2000 or winxp bottle. Then, use the winecfg control panel to change its Windows version to Windows 98.
