Is the USB not being picked up by the program. The serial should work, if your serial port is configured correctly though. I'm using a 1945 and don't have that option unless I convert which I may do, but I want to make the USB work. I know the PDA will talk to linux. dmesg will prove that, it's just getting crossover to use the usb ports, which may be more of a wine issue:) I'm just starting to work on it though, and will not stop until I can sync my PDA with outlook:)
Got Active Sync a little closer to working. I have a dell axim x5 advanced. I used the serial-to-usb kernel module. I compiled in the ipaq (works for many pda's) module under
USB Support ->
USB Serial Converter support ->
USB Compaq iPAQ / HP Jornada / Casio EM500 Driver
in menuconfig for the 2.6 kernel.
( your pre-compiled kernel should have the ipaq module compiled in )
I hooked up the USB to my axim, and enter the modprobe ipaq in to a shell.
now my axim is connected to the "serial port" at /dev/usb/ttyUSB0
I then edited my cxoffice .conf file and replace the path to serial port 2 with "/dev/usb/ttyUSB0"
now when cxoffice talks to serial port 2, it is routed to my usb connected axim via the kernel module.
I then installed active synce 3.7.1 and get to the stage where it scans usb and serial ports for your pda, and when it scans serial port 2, my pda lights up and i see the incoming connection message on my pda's screen. But before the connection is completed the active synce installer fails to see the pda.
So there is some form of communication going on, just not enough to get Active Sync to find the pda.
I'll fiddle with this a bit tonight, it seems reasonable that if C4 can be "tricked" into thinking the device is connected as it should be, there shouldn't be any problems. I think systems with udev will end up having more issues here.
Yup, in fact I have udev on a fedora core 3 something (updated fedora core 2 to Fedora Core 3 test 3 dev to Fedora core 3...)... Doesn't work at all :(
Also on my laptop (a ubuntu with udev) it doesn't work at all :(
I know that with SynCE there's an issue with udev as well, since when you plugin the device it goes to some obscure (and dynamic) /dev file. If there were some way to keep this under control, I would assume there wouldn't be any problems.
