Installation Help

Since I've heard of several peopple moaning about the Installtion of Office XP, here is my installation procedure. It worked each time so far on several Linux Distributions.

-> Install CX 3.0
-> Install IE6.0 via the CX Setup
-> Use the IE6.0 to install windows updates for win98

  • There are 14 updates shown, install them
  • Answer with "yes" the dialog after installing (if you check the microsoft update page again you'll see 6 packages left, ignore that)
    -> Install Office XP
    -> Use IE6.0, visit the microsoft homepage and install "Installer 2.0"
    -> Use IE6.0, visit the microsoft office homepage and install SP3

Your Office XP is ready to go, have fun ! :)

Hi Alexandros,
Firstly, thank you for taking on this role and posting these instructions.
I am running the latest CX 4.2; Access 2002(XP) is the major windows app used (I rely heavily on it). Until recently it ran fine (as previously on CX 4.1), but now crashes whenever a table or query is opened. I first repaired then reinstalled Office XP, without luck. All other office programs work OK.
When following your install procedure, I encountered a new problem - the IE6 (SP1) install (freshly downloaded from Microsoft) crashes upon reaching the update pages. So I am stuck.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.
all the best,
Karl

The following has resulted in Access 2002 (XP) working properly (for now).

  1. Remove and reinstall CX4.2 (just like windows).
  2. Install Office 2000.
  3. Install IE 6 SP1.
  4. Install Installer 2.0 as suggested by Alexandros (could not run the win98 updates as he suggested).
  5. Upgrade to Office 2002 and install SP3.
